When it comes to holiday destinations then Greece is the place to go i'm afraid as the variety of the landscape combined with the historical significance of the place give it the edge, BUT, be ware of crappy islands and visit the mainland instead, visit Pilio, last person that went there a year ago keeps thanking me today.

I went to Gozo a couple of years ago. Went the last week of July, first week of August and it was quite cheap then because it was the hottest time of the year and there was loads to do and see. Plenty of festivals, horse racing in the streets of the main town and the people very friendly. I would go again  :y

I would have to agree with Martin, Cornwall can be nice.  Really needs good weather, and often does get decent weather from June to August. Earlier or later can be variable though. But often, its as expensive as abroad, where you are usually going to get better weather....

With Cornwall the best time is early in the season - eg May June before it gets too busy, the sea may be a little cooler than in August but there are more flowers out - the gardens are good, lots of places to eat, lots of nice pubs and they all speak English.

Just avoid Newquay, St. Ives, and other big tourist beaches at high season.

Never manic in nort east or south west Cornwall.

TD has had a few suggestions for a walking holiday. Say what you like and I'll suggest somewhere.

BTW I live in Worcester, grew up in Gloucestershire, born in Malta, Cornish & Devon ancestry

Aye, Newquay sums up all that is horrible about English seaside towns. St Ives old town worth a visit - great place to see sunset into sea from up near gallery...

Landsend is poor and expensive, Lizard is pleasant, though nothing there (except Anns Pasty Shop - best pasties in the land).
