Have I got a serious security problem?
« on: 12 December 2008, 08:18:45 »

Following the threads about anti-spyware, I downloaded Spotzilla from one of the links and used the full scan facility. it identified two quarantined items, 1 trojan and 1 hacktool from an 'old H/d' file which I haven't opened in years, but wanted me to subscribe to remove them. Norton and XoftSpy, which I use regularly never identify these and give me a clear bill of health.
I decided to un-install Stopzilla, but was asked to submit a survey form as to why I wanted to get rid, which I simply closed without completing. The uninstall seems to have worked, (all reference to the programme has disappeared), but Norton will not now launch from any of my icons or from the programmes file.
Is it likely that the Stopzilla programme is responsible, am I in trouble security wise, and how can I rectify the problem, please?
I'm concerned because I use internet banking, andI've  changed passwords as a first step.
Malwarebytes' Anti-malware has identified no infected files or malicious software.
I'd very much appreciate an expert's help.
Bill.

Run a repair install on Norton first - insert CD as if you are installing and you will see a repair and an uninstall option - click repair.  If that don't work uninstall and try fresh install.  If all else fails uninstall and install avast (free) from avast site.

Try spybot/super antispyware for the malware issue.

You carry on m8!  Suspect if Malwarebytes' Anti-malware shows system clean then it probably is altho with malware sometimes need to use more than one scanner to detect/clear.

I know, Steve, I know! But the reality is that it's messing about with me.
dbug. Wasn't being rude by not replying but have had to be out working all day. When I came to follow your suggestion I tried launching Norton one more time and lo and behold, it's working normally. Everything now appears to be fine. Thanks again for your interest.
I'm afraid computer nerds like me tend to panic when things go wrong.
