West Coast Main Railway Line
« on: 14 December 2008, 19:22:32 »

After 10 years of modernisation work costing £13 billion the West Coast Railway Main Line has been upgraded to allow for 125 mph 'tilting' trains and an extra capacity which will allow an additional 1,100 train pathways each week. 8-) 8-) ;)

I just a v quick search on national rail for fares nottingham to london....and got sent back £59 as cheapest return ticket.....and £19 for single adv booking.
Its possible its cheaper to buy two single tickets in advance than a return.....i know it was when i went to gloucester the other week on the train.

Swindon to Glos.....adv booking £3 each way.....£7 return  ::)
So i bought 2 singles for £6 in total  :y
And outward journey was 8.55am.....so still in peak time id have thought  :-/

You wanna have a play on the national rail web site Mark.....its suprising what fares it comes up with.....if booking in advance  :y

I went to Swin station to get my tickets and the ticket person couldnt believe it came up with £3 single to glos at 8.55am.... ;D ;D ;D

I'm sure (in fact I know) they are still doing works between MK Central and Bletchley, so the BBC banging on about it being finished is smelly BS

No it hasn't Martin not all the way through as of now, as Virgin Railways have frequently complained about and now can fully use their tiliting trains.  Hence also the ability to accommodate more trains due to them travelling at 125 mph through Rugby for instance and clearing more pathways to allow the 1,100 extra trains per week. ;) ;)

well last month me and a friend decided to go at the last minute to the NEC and took my 3.0 elite and using the car for 960 miles it cost us £119 in fuel between us,the fare quoted to me on the Friday to leave on the saturday was £78 single EACH so that and the returnwould have been at least £320,but during that weekend we went to sheffield and to a village called Calton to visit people we knew so by using public transport it would have cost over £400,which is a staggering £280 more than we spent.Why would ANYBODY use that kind of service?
