Noisy Neighbours
« on: 14 December 2008, 20:14:06 »

Do you have noisy neighbours?

Luckily now myself and Mr Dusty do not have them. Our house is detached, and the closest house to us is about 200 metres........no problem with parking either.

In the past, we have had noisy neighbours. Our first house was a new house, a middle terrace. The interior walls were so thin that you could not help hearing the next door neighbours on both sides...........The interior walls consisted of 1 row of breeze block with a piece of plaster board on either side.

We could hear them, pull their curtains, answer the phone, put plugs in and out of sockets (and other things we did not wish to hear) ::)

A hundred years ago the average house was double brick thick at least, and the loudest noise you could possibly hear from next door was someone tinkling on the piano.

Today,in the average house the walls are made of cardboard, while the average house owner has surround sound tv, 500 watt stereo systems and gadgets galore. No wonder there are problems.

It is not beyond the modern builder to make a house much more soundproof, and thus ease the stresses on all concerned ;)

Your thoughts on noisy neighbours please. Are you one of them, or do you suffer because of them? :-* :-* :-* :-*

I grew up in the peace & quiet of the countryside, but now i live in a semi in a small town :'( :'(
My neighbours are very good, she has two girls, 1 aged 10 & the other 15ish. I'm sat at the moment with no tv or music & i can't hear a peep :) :) :) :)
It's not always like that, i sometimes hear Nicola shouting at them when they're naughty ;D ;D ;D ;D
I must say it's very quiet for a housing estate :y :y :y :y

all modern houses will comply with 'Robust details'

as a timber frame house designer our party wall detail consists of 90mm studs walls separated by a 70mm cavity, the room side of each of these party wall is fixed with 19mm gyproc plank and then a further 12.5mm plasterboard sheet to deaden sound this achieves 45db i think :-/

best bet is to buy a detached house ;) apparently quite cheap at the moment ::)

Now theres an idea.  I have a Yamah DSP 7.1 something or other rated to well over loud enough.  I think my neighber ought to beneift one night.

She tells the old guy at the other side of her she in in bed every night at night so he wont call on her, the truth of the matter is I think she is having an affair with someone local whose wife is a nurse/sister on nights.  She comes back home between 1 and 2 am banging doors, puts the washer then tumble dryer on and is is often making nose still at 4 am.

She is a complete pain in the arse, has 2 dogs that bark at anything and run completely amok arround the house whislt she is house.

Soon to be an ex neighber though, hence maybe time to test the HiFi. :o

not my neighbors exactly but my parents , Mum phoned me up and was a bit upset about things that had been happening recently . i happened to bump in to a couple of neighbours the next day explained that things couldn't go on the way they were ,they got lippy and i nearly got arrested which wasn't ideal ,but still Mum and Dad have had a fairly quiet time so I'm happy if not a little confused this lot are meant to be really tough and all the rest of it ,and the first time someone stands up to them they phone the Police .The mind boggles

You MUST be careful with these tinkers - they know how to play the system - DO NOT be cavalier, please call the police for assistance even if you don't think it's required
