See: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1167917774

I don’t want to be a spoilsport, so I am posting this in a separate thread rather than as a reply to the existing one.

The post is excellent and the pictures are very good, it has been needed for some time now so well done! I wish I had seen it before flushing my radiator a couple of months ago…. Would have saved me some time.

However, there is one thing which I suggest needs changing.

I am referring to 'Now its time to add the new red coolant, I did’nt have a spare large bottle so I used a Robinsons 2Ltr bottle, I filled it half way up with red coolant and then filled it up to the top with water...'

You should never ever have toxic substance such as Ethylene Glycol in a container previously used for drinkables or edibles.... you might think it's only going to be there for  a brief second, but it is not permissible under any circumstances... many accidents happened this way, and in fact I personally know of a case many many years ago (and in another country) where four people dies after the vehicle they borrowed broke down in freezing cold and they decided to keep themselves warm with a bottle of 'liquor' they found in the boot – and which turned-out to be antifreeze stored in a Banana Liquor bottle.

Again, it may seem that you were in full control of the bottle at all times and you would have presumably also destroyed the container after using it, but still the fact remains that safe habits prevent accidents. I posted it here rather than sending a PM because I think it is important that everyone is aware of this.

Tunnie, I suggest that you edit-out the pictures and text relating to the Robinsons bottle….

Incidentally, as Vx coolant is supplied in 5L containers, all you need do is after the last rad drain simply pour the entire coolant container directly into the expansion bottle, then top-up with water as needed...

Good point.  I always peel off labels (if appropriate) and write with permenent marker what it contains/has contained, though try to use same bottles - hence I have old coolant bottles with such things as '50:50 Red mix' and 'soft water' written on...   ...same thing for screen wash - all my old screenwash bottles filled with varying strength screenwash, and marked...

Maybe I should measure a bit more accurately than a good slosh, or inch or 2 to a watering can  :-/

Cheers markjay very good safety point that, something i did not consider...

Shall i remove the photo showing the mixing, or put a large warning saying don't use this bottle for anything else and destroy it afterwards?

Fake it... take a 'proper' container, fill it with some red liquid, and take a picture of it next to the car... just make sure it is a sunny day again. The newspapers do it all the time...   ;D

Take a pic witha  washing up bowl under the front and post that so taht we can add the statement that it should be disposed of down a foul drain.

Also worth noting that the coolant system capacity is approx 10 litres so you need to get 5 litres of anti freeze in, to do this may require you to pour it in neet (no problem here as long as the engine is run to temp to get it fully mixed shortly after)

Add a note about spilling the anti freeze and causing corrosion of the level sensor connector on the underside of the header tank.

Make sure its clear that you need a 50:50 mix in there....and that idealy it should be changed every 2 years.

"2.2 takes 6 litres of coolant"- does that mean you flushed it clear then added 3 litres to replace the drain off from the valve - and how much is Vx stock?
