Pete Elite is coming to pick up the steering column on Monday, he has a Senator without a use which has got me thinking.

Most of you know I am going around Europe in the summer, its been pointed out which ever car i get I should run it for a while to make sure its reliable. After all i want it breaking down in the UK on the M40 rather than in the Swiss Alps!

Pete's senny is the 24v one (only version i'd have) - Its been stood still for 3 years!  :o

However mentioned in another thread they are easier to work on than the Omega, so i should be laughing!!

Only real problem is the rear arches, what would I be looking at to get those sorted?

Whats interesting is i did an insurance quote in my name on a 1991 3.0 24V Senny Auto, came out at £340 fully comp!  :o Which aint bad.

Any thoughts suggestions on a Senny thats not moved in 3 years?

Have the brakes seized and how regular has it been started :question

Wonder what the petrol is like in the tank after standing for 3yrs :-/

Not sure on that, bet the petrol is very old!

Just started this thread really to get some ideas, and what to look for.

Although he did say a fuel pipe had a leak, so i doubt there is much fuel in it.

I do fancy running a straight 6 3.0 for a while  ;D

Really annoying thing is because i am under 25 i cannot drive other cars with just third party insurance  >:(

Not sure how i can add it to my policy

Heard of people going as named drivers on someone elses policy say a mum or dads, maybe a way round it.

Wondered about that, used to do that for my car. Now got my own policy...

However the senny will be a stand alone car. Parents won't use it, i will only drive it and when i do drive it, at best be once a month as a i prepare it.

damn insurance!

A car thats stood for 3 years is going to have some issues, aside from the bodywork problems. I guess it has no MOT either.

its SORN at the moment, i like the idea of 24v Senny.. but think it may be a bit to much. However might go take a look at it!

Hi Tunnie,
              a 1991 Senator should be elegible for classic car insurance. I'd phone someone like Footman James for a quote. If you are part of a recognised club too (Autobahn stormers perhaps??) you should get a discount on the premium and possibly unlimited miles. Could be worth looking into that route  :)

:-? Depends where you go as to what they class as 'classic insurance' but I've never heard of pre 72. You not confusing with historic/free road tax?
Before I lost the plot and sold Vx's finest  ;) I had a ring round to obtain quotes for a Senator as a 2nd/classic car. Unfortunately I can't remember which company it was but I had a quote of aound £150.
Autobahnstormers insure their Lotus Carltons/Omega(A) for a relative pitance under classic car policies.

Yes, I was thinking of tax  :-[

Classic insurance, don't you normally have limited mileage, and the car be a true classic icon?
