ive started to try and potty train my 2 and half year old son as he goes to nursery in september
he keeps saying he wants a wee when he has got a nappy on but when i take the nappy off for him to use the potty he dont want a wee then when he has pants on he comes to me soaking wet

any tips or do i just grin and bare

i was told boys are the hardest to potty train

the daughter was easy she potty trained straight away

I personaly think it would be easier to attach them to the loo with a ratchet strap but the wife is not so keen.

with boys you need to forget all the gizmos. apart from the pingpong ball in the loo. gives them something to aim at!

forget the potty to! go straight to the loo.

my son was a bugger to train we had to give up for 4mths and try again. some times with boys they are just not ready.

i had to put him on the loo every hour. he soon learned. our biggest problem was he didnt like going infront of people and went through a phase of putting a nappy on just to go for a poo. then asking to have pants back on. we soon left him to his own devices with just pants on and a potty out just incase but he always went to the toilet instead.

the biggest thing i can advise in not to put pressure on him or get mad and upset when they come to you wet. i know it can be soul distroying when all you seem to do is clean up after them.


good luck! oh and my son still wont wipe his own bum!

thats what i'm doing at the moment and i got the potty out as well just incase
my 1 year old has taken a shy to the potty and likes to sit on it now

absolutely the right course.... you can buy a mini seat to fit over yours so's he/she won't fall in   but a potty is a useless unhygienic gimmic. I love the idea of a ping pong ball in the bog, think I'm gonna trey that one for myself

That all brought back long ago memories Marie and I would certainly echo everything you said, as I had two boys and one girl!

Certainly with boys, that are lazy little buggers and the hardest to train, you have to make going to the loo somehow exciting and the ping pong ball is a very good answer to it!

Pure perseverance is the mother's ability that she must have and trying to second guess when their children need to go to the toilet by watching, how can I say, hand movements, especially with boys!  When they need the poo it is also the tell tale 'dances' that give the game away. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Oh, happy days of long ago, although recently I have been helping my adopted daughter train her young son that brought a lot of my skills back.

offer them a reward for doing it on the potty, worked most of the time for us, they did coccasionaly miss and have a dump on the carpet which wasnt so bad as it was my mums house mostly

Invite a friend who is potty trained round. Should be someone they get on really well with, maybe slightly older. When the friend wants to use the potty get your son/daughter to watch. Kids love imitating their peers and this method has worked with my youngsters.

the best bit with boys is they dance and start holdin it when they want to go

we went through a phase with shane when he was going every 20mins and peeing more then me. there was nothing wrong with him but sometimes now he doesnt even realise that he has gone.
its like the bladder is not talkin to the brain! :-/ thankgod now it hardly happens.

Very good advice Marie, and for the bottom wiping my daughter sometiems asks, she can tell if it may be a 'difficult' one to clean and she is 8.
