Dont mess with PCSO"s...
« on: 10 January 2009, 14:26:00 »

Filling up at south mimms services last night,PCSO was strutting around like Night club bouncer ready too deck someone (swear too god ) when a car pulled in that had previously driven off without paying it set off an alarm behind the counter.

PCSO goes into panic mode yes PANIC mode and when counter staff said ""previous drive off back"" PCSO shouts down the radio for back up and with that ran outside like linford Christie (minus the lunchbox) then proceeded too run round in circles.

No offence but the guy was a complete tool...now fair play if it was an armed robbery i could have fully understood, but going from swaggering round like Arnie swarchenegger on steroids too a headless chicken over a Non payer is just bizarre.

Oh i wish i had my mobile handy...deffo worthy of ""Youve been framed"" ;D

Calling for back up is about all he could have done anyway -- no power of arrest (over and above that of a citizen).  PCSO's are SUPPORT officers, not Police Officers --- basically feet on the street and a community liason force.

It was more the fact he was swaggering around then as soon as he was needed too do something he just paniced and ran round like a loon.

Makes me wonder whats the point of him being in the job in the first place.

As previously stated, PCSO's only have "any person" powers of arrest - same as any civillian, so can't do much in the way of directly dealing with the situation.

That said - it's mentioned one of the first things he did was call for backup. In my opinion he deserves credit for this - at least he was able to relay the informaiton back to the control room and over the airwaves.

He may have over reacted at the situation a bit - but it does actually sound like he did his job.

In terms of replacing Constables, I don't think the PCSO role is suitable. I do think they're good for community engagement though, and they feed back some really useful information :y

James he did do his job...but the manner in which he did he really was laughable, like i said he shouted down the radio like a gang of heavily tooled up villains had just burst in shotguns at the ready. ;D

Then ran round like a headless chicken....now is that really the sign of a professional who has received good solid training.

Yes marie it was bloody comical......god knows what he would have done if id have farted...probably dropped too the floor and shouted ""Gas gas gas"" whilst trying too find an NBC suit... ::) ;D

Sorry but the bloke was a complete tool.... ;D

Chances are he has only been on the streets a few weeks -- the swagger hasn't worn off !!!!   I have seen probationers do the same thing -- experience teaches a lot that can't be picked up in the training centre.

I admit the liason part of their job is very useful -- but would still rather see the money spent on "real" police.
