I need a drink.
« on: 13 January 2009, 20:16:58 »

Right, i got my mig for my 18th and six months later it throws a rod :'(
So ordered an engine from Nottingham. Fitted it and fired it up (sort of) missfiring on two cylinders. Got it compression tested and low pressure on two cylinders. Slept on it and decided break it.

So I started striping the engine to fit new rings, valves etc....
Removed one piston and it started rainng till yesterday. Got the other three out I have two bent rods :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

What can I do? :'( :'( :'( :'(

What did you do with the original engine....does that have any good rods in it (might not be the right tolerance but, easy enough to check)

Looked at the old engine. The three rods are bent and the forth one is scattered around the road.

If he sold you a dodgy lump then he should have checked it before shipping.  I would expect an exchange or refund at his exspence.

Yep -- as it's a faulty lump it's up to the supplier to replace at his expense!

I'd be happy to send the engine back at his cost. But wouldn't be looking forward to taking that one out and then putting another one in again.

My old man was just talking to a local mechanic and he said to take the pistons down tomorrow and see if he has any rods going cheap.

Would replacing the rods work as long as there's no damange to the block or the bores?

From what you have described so far I think that is very unlikely! :( :(
