Favourite Games...
« on: 06 January 2007, 23:59:54 »

Found myself looking through youtube and came across some footage of FF8 (Final Fantasy VIII to the uninitiated ;))

I so have to play that again! One of my all time favourites, massive game, took me 135hrs of gameplay 2nd time and I didn't get everything!

So what are the "great" games?

Half Life. Quite simply the best game ever made for the PC. When I played it the first time I promptly took a week off sick! ;)
Perfect mix of action, puzzles and storytelling with astonishing AI.

Mario 64. Fantastic. Superb gameplay, great graphics (at the time), and beautifully addictive.

Elite. Ooooold game for the Commodore 64 (among others). Huge open ended game. Completely original at the time.

Resident Evil (and most of the sequels Especially 4!).
Played this on the Playstation in the dark and scared myself silly! Created the "Survival Horror" genre.
Remake for the Gamecube was rather good too.

Silent Hill Series....
Where the hell did they find the guy who dreamt up this place???  :o
The most warped, twisted and downright unsettling games I have ever played!
Took the Survival Horror idea and then really made it over!
Some of the things you come across (especially in 3) are just "wrong".... :-/

Bubble Bobble.
Simple and yet soooo addictive!  :D
Just go round, trap the mosters in bubbles you produce and then pop them!
Sounds simple...and it is. Add in some power ups and the odd bonus and there you have it.
But oh boy is it addictive!

The last game I was addicted to was Castle Wolfenstein.... many years ago now  :(

Sadly no time for serious gaming these days....

Maybe one day when I retire...  :)

I used to spend hours playing Transport Tycoon.  It was one of the 'God' type games where you used to create roads, railways, airlines and shipping companies to transport goods around and make cash.  The original before the other Tycoon style games.  Graphics were quite cool for what was available at the time, but it was no shootem up, thats for sure....

Never had a trainset, so this was the substitute!   ;D

Half Life 2 is my all time fave.
Also enjoyed Halo, Max Payne, Soldier of Fortune & thought The Suffering was warped!
Just started re-playing F.E.A.R.
Used to like Donkey Kong many moons ago & Sonic & Super Mario were fun in their day.

I'm not a huge gamer, but, predictably, I do like GT4.

I used to spend hours dialled up to my mate in Surrey playing Red Alert tho'.

He gave me Total Anihilation one year for Christmas, but I've never gotten round to playing it yet.

I liked Halo2, if there is something else decent for old Xbox I would be interested.
