aye i was in the audience in 2006 i had been on the waiting list since 2002!

it is indeed the person named in the HSE report! when he was in the studio he was of similar height/build to the HSE mentioned driver!

Perry the old stig mentioned it in his autobiography and that HSE report has been out for nearly 2 years!

Saw a programme about two years ago that had a rotund, receeding ginger haired ex-plod advanced driving instructor that had been roped in to get a group of young drivers through their driving test. These drivers all had their own individual faults e.g Boy Racer, Obnoxious Know It All, Nervous Scaredy Cat etc.
The presenter of the show introduced the instructor by name, which I missed (sorry), and added that he was The Stig from Top Gear. It was on at stupid o'clock in the morning and was just briefly mentioned.
