Squealing brakes

I'm feeling good about some of the work I finally got done on the Omega yesterday. Popped over to a colleague's house where he has an enourmous purpose built workshop, and we sorted out lots of tricky little things that needed doing such as restoring the wiring to the high beams and horns which hadn't been done when the police disposed of it.

Next step sort out why the air-con compressor doesn't run - finaly found the circuit in the cooling section of the wiring diagrams. I might even take on the cambelt challenge!

Still can't work out why the brakes make such a squeal, I'd originally intended to replace the pads, but they're all new, does anyone know why they should make such a noise?

clean the discs and pads and all round gubbings.......replace ( as you have) anything that needs replacing.

Have you replaced the shim and tried some brake cleaner  :-/

Is there any pulling synonomous with sticky caliper or excessive build up of "dust"?

Usually one of, or a combination of, any of the above helps  :y

Thanks Mark, there was a bit of dust which I cleaned out - mostly in the handrake drum. I haven't used brake cleaner before, do I use it to wipe over the friction surfaces?

Also not sure which shim you're talking about. Because I took the disc off, I had to unbolt the calipers, rather than popping out the pads.

Copper grease on all non friction material contact points......?

And ensure there is a leading a trailing edge/curve on the friction material, file it if there isn't

..on both sides - front and rear - my brakes squeel when braking while reversing  :o
