« on: 25 January 2009, 10:05:42 »

about all the new sh1t stuff i buy.....
1) a toshiba laptop that destroys itself one day out of warranty.
-cost of £30 to recover harddrive and full restore.
2) a 37" tv that sounded like a bowl of rice crispies when turned on.
-loss of £35 post cost to send it back.
3) 2 replacement fan blower units that are so unbalanced they waddle across the boiler.
-first one taken back second one fitted and still is noisy- ongoing!
4) a sony cd unit that wouldn't recognise a cd after 2 days out of warranty.
-smashed up with a hammer in a fit of temper.
5) a tomtom 910 that will not charge anymore.
-sent a snotty e-mail to tomtom -ongoing.
6) a hitachi portable dvd player that has a dodgy battery.
- can only use it with a car charger or mains lead.
7) the iphone (which i still love) but find out that you cannot forward text messages, cannot bluetooth any other phone, has no video recorder fac and has gliches with the videos, albums pics.
-putting up with it
8) a sky box that freezes once every 3 months
- requiring a switch off/on everytime.
i could go on really, am i just unlucky or is there so much bodged up new stuff coming out of shops nowadays??? >:( :(

They all know you bought Sony and a gayPhone, so you're on the 'suckers list'

I'm afraid its a fact of life these days.

If a TV set lasts 1 year (and a day!), in a five year period you will buy 5 TV's which is great news  for the manufacturers. If it lasts 5 years, like our last CRT set, you are only going to buy one. Manufacturers know all about reliability, but use cheap crap components instead so it keeps them making more rubbish.

There are a few exceptions like the company I currently contract for, want very reliable stuff, so they put all their stuff thro extensive HALT tests, which basically heats and cools and vibrates stuff to make sure its reliable and find out its weak points and fix them. Tests like cooled from 50 deg to 0 deg, in 2 mins, and it has to keep working all the time !.

Thats life, unfortunately.

That won't be a Logik then !, they tend to die after 1 year with inverter problems.

Shops also rely on you loosing the guarantee. If you bought an HP laptop from PC world and it fails (when!) even though HP would fix it for free, PC world won't accept it unless you have the receipt.

People believe the hype on the gayPhone. Initially, on the face of it, the gayPhone seems to work.  But as soon as you start using it, you begin to see it is way underdeveloped and incomplete.  Examples include inability to forward text messages, and inability to do Picture Messaging (some odd 3rd party apps now sort of get around this, but you have to pay 3rd party per message sent)
