it is an automatic lights on and off module for automotives  , basically when the light levels outside drop to a certain amount on come the cars lights ie driving into a tunnel and and as soon as you drive out they go off again,, this also works of a nightime as in the lights will automatically come on as soon as it start getting dark  :y

I maybe the only one, but I have noticed a problem with them, the wife's Astra has it factory fitted, and where we live there is a road with many overhanging tree's and a sideroad in the middle which is difficult to get out of. Now the automatic lights can come on where your least expecting them to and someone in the side road may think your flashing your lights and pull out. I understand you should not pull out, but people do and I am more likely to be on the main road.

I am still really undecided about this feature.

Mercs do OK. I think there's a reasonable cross over of light levels required to turn them on & off.
The Merc's are also tied into the alarm in that it turns the front fogs on for a short time when you alarm it up in the dark ..... lights your drive up while you walk to the front door. :y
The Pointiac I hired a couple of years ago also did similar, but you could alter it all via the 'MID' if you wanted.

I have about 8 miles of road with intermittent tree cover on my way to work and I am forever wondering why the prat behind me keeps turning his lights on and off. Then I realise... ::)

TBH, I can't really see the point. How hard is it to remember to turn the lights on when it's dark?

It's obviously too difficult for some.  ;)
It'd help too when it's foggy and you see clowns with no lights on at all, just because they can see where they're going just mean that hey can bee seen! A bit like the auto sweep of your wipers when you wash the screen, you can manage without it, but it's easier if it does it itself.  :y  :y

Sorry but I have to disagree, they seem to turn on even in bright sunshine, just because it has gone into a shady area, and as I said what happens if someone pulls out because they thoughtyou where flashing them out ?

The wife's old Volvo used to do that, was actually quite useful.

The wifes 307 has them.  Quite like the option.  Experience to date is that they go an and tend to stay on for considerably longer than the time of a couple of quick headlamp flashes.

And anyway, all a headlamp flash means is 'I am here' and not barge out in front of me/take the parking space/speed carera ahead/whatever.

Done a fair number of European tunnels whilst on holiday where headlamp use is mandatory and found it really usefull....

Yeah, in the make believe land of people who have read and abide by the highway code....
However on planet Stupid , it means 'do whatever the hell you want, i have flashed you and have nothing better to do than watch you try and remove yourself from the gene pool' >:(
