Worth noting they changed the 2.9V6 (was it?) in the XR4i for a 2.3 Turbo for the US though.... would change its character a bit, I reckon.....

Urrrggghhhh, hated the XR4i.  Not particularly quick in a straight line, and couldn't do corners at all....   ....and ideal American car ;D

Not the first 3 years of production - the XR4x4 used the same 2.8 lump as the XR4i - then it got upgraded to the much better 2.9 lump - around 1989 onwards - I owned all 3 variants over the years - the XR4i was just embarrassing - but the 2.9 XR4x4 was one of my favourite cars I have ever owned - second only to my CLS AMG :)

Just remember that these are American views! Much as I love classic US muscle cars can anyone on here name many good US cars that dont guzzle shed loads of gas, have half decent suspension and (to paraphrase mr clarkson) can actually manage a few corners? Their market remains quite different from ours even now and I guess their buyers want different things .Makes for some good comparisons tho, I was reading the history of the Ford Mustang recently and Id assumed that these massive engines that some of them had would produce great bhp, but considering these big ccs  the bhp output was feeble. Meanwhile, over in Japan they were producing normally aspirated vtec/mivec engines producing 100 bhp per 1000cc. I suppose when fuel prices were so cheap over there at that time technology didnt come into it. Different strokes for different folks eh?

Hehe the two cars i currently own in that list then! Well nearly.

Got a 2.8V6 XR4x4 along with the 3.2 Mig at the moment. The sierra is a fun car to drive in standard form if not that potent. The sierra is stripped out though with Spax adjustables all round and awaiting the cosworth V6 out the Scorpio transplant.

According to that guide then i really am not very stylish!

We played with an XR4x4 Estate as a company car for a while....  Most enjoyable when on a wee 'hoot' with the wee lads and lasses in their go faster pocket rockets....   ;D

I actually enjoyed its insane predictability, when it started to go a tad Pete Tong....   :-X
