Let's get this right..

The NHS wants patients to go without meat as producing it involves a high amount of emissions (despite the fact that meat is recommended especially after surgery).  >:(

and...patients should phone their GP rather than drive in for a visit, according to National Health Service guidelines unveiled today. So GPs should diagnose over the phone to save on CO2?  >:(

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1127527/Meat-removed-hospital-menus-NHS-tells-patients-ring-GPs-cut-carbon-emissions.html

So this is all in the name of man-made global warming which has been championed by James Hansen at Nasa. It was that very man that first brought the subject up. He wants industrialists to be treated as criminals and has recently defended green trespassers at a UK power station.

Hmm, funny then that today Hansen's former supervisor has declared himself as sceptical of AGW (Anthropogenic Global Warming). He goes on to say that Hansen has been an embarrassment to Nasa and that his climate models are useless. ( :y)

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/01/27/james-hansens-former-nasa-supervisor-declares-himself-a-skeptic-says-hansen-embarrassed-nasa-was-never-muzzled/

Any chance of any sanity returning?  :-/

I have to say Nick......that I think global warming is a reality .........and not a fantasy..........nearly all the current data and evidence seems to support this.

But I am only about 80% sure that it is man made.......It is possible that mother Earth goes through it's own natural climatic changes .....every few million.....or few billion years or so.

But most of the changes seem to have happened in the last few hundred years.....since the industrial revolution. :y :y

I do not wish to argue, but when I was at school in the 70s all the "experts" assured us(told us) we where heading for another ice age. forgive me for being sceptical, but when each generation of "experts" can't agree, then what are we the general public supposed to believe.
And to make matters worse governments/experts/greens around the world seam to think the only answer lies in higher taxation.

Firstly -- the report was in the Daily Mail -- therefore probably highly inaccurate .... oh and it's protein intake recommended to rebuild broken bodies, doesn't have to come from meat.  TBH the hospitals can save money on food by providing one or two plain, well cooked choices, as opposed to the dozen or so Lloyd Grossman p*ss*d about with cr*p they offer now.

On Global warming -- if it is going to happen, it will. It's not man-made. The well accepted climate changes in the past (ice-age) wasn't man made. but still happened.  According to those studying core samples from glaciers a dramatic climate shift also occurred in Mose's time ---- probably not man made then either.

I think it's possibly more of a case that the changes have been recorded more in the last couple of centuries, rather than the changes only occurring during this time.

Maybe we should be focusing our efforts on learning to live through and deal with climate change, rather than to stop the march of nature ---- we are just trying to be King Canute all over again!!!!

Finally, before I fall off this high horse ...... the good old UK can cut it's emissions to zero and it will make no difference at all while the likes of China and the USA spew out all the uncontrolled CO2 emissions on a mammoth scale.

My hot air spouting can't help either .. so I will shut up and get off this darn horse  :-X

the people making the most noise about man made global warming [now called climate change as it aint got warmer!] are the people who are cashing in bigtime, the figures come from government backed scientists who have a financial reason to come up with these figures, al gore is whizzing around in a private jet & limos preaching to people to buy carbon credits [he owns a company that sells them!] & of course our own green taxes, yes its changing & yes it has done for millions of years before man was on this planet >:(,,,,right i will now put my soapbox away ;)

Agree wholeheartedly, age wise getting to be mid 40s.
I think this thread could run, as many people have very differing opinions on this subject.

The earth has warmed since the last Ice Age and there was a small rise in the latter decades of the 20th century. Of course, mankind does have some impact through land use changes and the UHI (Urban Heat Island) effect. The concrete and the roads necessarily impact on local temperature records. Note, though, that the planet has not warmed since the turn of the millenium (some say since 1998).

But, CO2 is not, in my view, causing catastrophic warming as the greens would have us believe. There are larger political motivations behind the scare stories.

For Holy Count:

Although I linked to the Daily Mail article (as that as the first up on Google), it did appear in other papers such as the Telegraph and is largely true, AFAIK.

Sorry you feel so stressed mate. Please try to relax. Some of us like to have a bit of a nag about politics and so on but, if all this talk winds you up too much, please avoid this thread. I'm genuinely concerned about your emotions, mate! Keep cool. ;) :y
