as can be seen cars average power must be advertised not peak power..

Good link mate with a good explanation :y. When I was getting the Prelude chipped etc, the guy had a leaflet explaining it:
 torque-imperial measurement=1 foot/ lb
           metric measurement=1m/101,9716g(av weight of Newtons apple!)
Torque(tractive effort)xspeed=power
Power is measured in bhp
1bhp=0.746kw
The "brake" in brakehorsepower is because it is measured by making an engine work against a brake. Measure how hard the brake works to keep the engine at a given RPM. This gives us a torque figure which we then x by the RPM(speed) to give us a power (bhp) figure.
