For the bikers amongst us Miggy owners...
« on: 30 January 2009, 23:46:50 »

After some advice!

I'm after (yet another) return to 2 wheels.  But this time, I want a bike that I'm going to keep for years.

I'm very interested by the new Triumph Bonneville's and Thruxtons (more swayed towards the Thrux tbh - the Bonnie is too much like the Kawasaki I got rid of a couple of months ago)

But I'm also getting swayed by some of the 0% finance offers on some Kawasaki's (I like the ER-6F) and Suzuki's (V800).

Sports-bikes tend to be quite painful for me to ride - had waaay too many knocks in my Rugby League playing days, and get bad pains in the tops of my legs after riding a sports-bike for more than 20mins.

Anybody got any advice on these bikes, or anything else to throw into the mix?

Aye, rode a Bandit 6 before (albeit a 96 model) - very light for its size, but seemed to be a bit lacking in low-down grunt (but went like a stabbed rat over 8 rpm!)

What I loved about my old bike was its low-down grunt.  Which is what I'm after with me new bike.

There's one thing I'm learning - once I find something I like, I should stick hold of it!!  I was the same when I got rid of me old Miggy, and now I'm the same with this!  One day, I'll learn...  >:(  :-[

There is a huge selection of naked bikes around these days, might be best to study spec, draw up a shortlist of bikes which are suitable, then study prices and do some serious haggling.deep midwinter +deep recession should = cheap bike wether brand new or used. :y

Aye, looked at a couple where I got my Miggy from, but they tend to be Honda ST1100's or Beemers, which are too tall for my short @r$e...

Exactly bud - which is why I'm looking at buying now.

My short-list is basically...

Plenty of low-down grunt
Low-down seat (for afore mentioned reasons!  :-[  :) )
Comfortable 2-up (for SHMBO)
Happy cruising at 90mph (for trips onto the continent)
