Is my hard drive had it?

or windoze xp corrupt?

Freezes on start up - get xp logo then stops loading.

go to safe mode no keys on keyboard work so cannot get into saft mode.  :( :'(

Does keyboard work in BIOS?  If so, suspect your next course of action is Windows CD in the drive, and rebuild (could try a repair, but its probably due a rebuild)

Keyboard works in Bios . Tried windoze cd in CD drive does not do anything.
Made CD first thing to boot in Bios.

ummm!  using num lock got the other enter key to work.
now got windows cd to boot, trying repair.  
examining files..........  last display

That failed  :'(

temporarily

1 from your bios make "plug and play os" > no

and disable all com ports and paralel port..this will free up some IRQs..

and the system will arrange IRQ arrangements itself.. may help imho..


2 another trial if you have more than 1 banks of memory try them 1 by one..

3 if you have extra PCI cards like sound, network , tv take them out completely ..

Unable to find that in the bios

taken pci cards out - no change.

got safe mode to run some files but hangs - read that I need to find
a boot disk with SP3 files

ok ..plug off the disk..

and try to boot from a bootable CD.. op .system not important here)..

only testing the hardware..

and check if still freeze or not..

plug and play os must be in PCI_PNP or a similiar sub menu..

I'm getting a windoze xp with sp3 - boot disk going to take 5 hrs ????

Also trying Maxtor hard drive check -not sure it will work ?

Got a Noo drive is it worth getting Visa now or wait and which version?

I'm still using Xp pro..  planning to use windows 7..(can have driver problems)

but depends on your taste so cant comment more..

Machine spec?

I probably wouldn't put vista on a P4 (saying that, its on my MCE ;D)

Going to noo  one just need the time to find out what to get........ need 36 hour days to keep up .
