advice on being arrested
« on: 10 February 2009, 10:50:39 »

my son was sitting on a bench saturday outside a shop, police were called to the shop because some kids were in there stealing. my son and his m8 were arrested and taken to the stn. the desciption we have found out the police was given was a kid in a cream sweater, my son had a blue top on.they said he was too young to be questioned as it had now turned 10 o clock at night. so was kept there till 11 am the following day, released and told to return next week. no charges. witnesses told the police it wasnt my son and his m8. but they still arrested them. is this right. what can i do???

Sounds dodgy to me Richie. Will check with local copper I know when I can. Did your son and his mate know the shoplifters or were either of them mouthy to the coppers or do/say anything that might have given the police cause to believe they were linked to the shoplifters?
Sounds a very overthetop reaction otherwise to say the least, I mean they must have had grounds for arresting them and they must have been informed of those grounds, what did they say to you?

yeah they knew them, but wasnt with them. they knicked the stuff. by the time the police came the kids were gone and my boy was still sitting outside with his m8. i dare'nt ring up as my temper will get the better of me and i'll fly off the handle. ive had enough of all this guilty by asssociation crap before and im not having it as an excuse to arrest someone. the've done it to all the kids where my boy lives, both my sons have had it done now,but never been charged for anything. prints photos, dna the lot.  ??

Pretty sure they only take DNA and prints when they charge you with an offence.

Ive been arrested a few times for minor things but wasn't until being arrested for assault the done the DNA and prints.

Please dont take this the wrong way but could your boy not be as innocent as he says...i know ive spun my parents some stories when a kid too save my arse. :y

Not 100% but if he"s a minor he cant be interviewed without an adult present so dont see what difference the time makes and sounds very odd they would hold him over night. :-/

Anyone arrested will have DNA sample and prints etc done.
They don't have to be charged.
