At the risk of being controversial,if its so dangerous why (afaik)do the police use radios etc while driving ?

police have been instructed not to use hand held radios whilst in the car as they are faced with same penalty (prob worse as they should know better, right)
As mentioned above buttons are now on steering wheels and gear sticks.

They did use them for many decades though with no suggestion of it being dangerous.
Btw,I believe the death penalty should be brought back for people who text while driving.

8 points ! ouch, that's a bit savage,as for driving without insurance i nearly did the same with the elite, insurance company said they sent me an e-mail about a problem with my policy and were about to cancel the policy without me knowing, they blamed an e-mail filter for the problem ,which is odd because i seem to get all other mail ok!

I'm guessing you were sentenced in the Magistrates Court .. not the Crown Court

Sentencing Guidlines for un-insured driving ..

You got close to the minimum ... 6 points ... could have been a LOT more ... 12 months disqualification

Count yourself lucky. You got away without having a crash and maybe injuring someone.

I think that there are obviously far too many perfect people/drivers here.
I'll stick my head above the parapet .... if we're baning people from using a phone & fining people rediculous fines for eating a butty at the wheel, we should also target the all the half wits on the road who struggle to drive in a stright line with both hands on the wheel. I certainly don't think that talking on a phone - hand held or fixed -  can be compared to drink driving like some so called expert has suggested. I have managed to talk on a phone - both hand held & fixed -loads of times quite safely while behind the wheel.

I can't condone it though now, cos it's no longer legal.

Chap has a point.

We need a new resident 'expert' for the UK so as to judge everyone else from, rather than the already accepted norm within Legal circles...  Any takers?

Hows this for a story. About 4 years ago i was pulled for using my phone, I was taking an emergency call, at the time. Took me a little while to find a safe place to stop, looking in my mirror I could see the female police officer using her radio. When stopped I chose not to mention this to her. ::)

Whilst I was sitting in her car, explaining why I was on the phone and where I was going, she took a radio call. Guess what, we were both now going to the same incident........... ::) ::) ::) Got of with it, I followed her to the incident, not blue lights though :(
