Sadly, I fear that (after reading of a court-case recently) the use of electric fence voltages with the intent of 'causing pain or injury' is illegal.....in particular if the electrified latch/fence etc. is accessible by a person from outside of your property (e.g: gate-latch etc.).
However, personally; I would have no hesitation in using an electric fence charger to secure a gate/shed (wholely) within my property. ::)

Wonder if I could convert my paintball marker.  Stupid thing is if I so much as pointed it outside and the police got called they send out the armed responce unit.

If I fired at someone at night and hit them in the back they can do me for it, if they came at me to attack I may get away with it.

Wonder how the law stands as an autmated sentry alert.

Imagine the robot in court. You shot at a burglar.
Robots responce. "..- -.- --. ... --- .-. ..-  -.-"

i remember a few years ago not far from a a bloke broke into this old womans house and got stuck by his balls on broken glass climbing in the window
the old woman called the police and the robber got away with it and sued the old woman for him getting hurt on her property

Same as when Spike Milligan shot a burglar in the butt with an air riffle.  He got done as the burgler was getting away from him.  Had he of been coming at him he would have gor away with it.

should be fine, most are sealed units  :y
You can pick them up from £1/value shops these days.
Other option is a sign saying "this area is monitored by CCTV"
but that only works if the druggies can read....

As it's a private residence that is not needed, however if you do display that sign you MUST register and conform to the Data Protection Act on CCTV! Costs about £1,100 a year!
