you have the far right hand lane available in a car, unless the car is towing a trailer and should only be doing max 60mph anyway.
problematic lorry drivers are the ones that are paid hourly working through agency and slow down to silly slow speeds just to stretch there paid hours further cos they don't know when their next working day will be.
i'd like to know how many car drivers has actually sat for a whole day in a lgv and can appreciate the dangers we lgv driver must protect the public from.

That's interesting, a long time ago, 1985 I was living in Poole and whilst looklng for a job took on a drivers job for what was 'Drinkwater Sabey' was out one day driving a 6 wheel tipper, I was young and used to throw the truck around. Got moaned at by a 'contractor' cos I was doing too many loads and would make him look bad, tough i said and got on with it, going as quick as I could. ;D Paid weekly made no differnce to me but I hate people who take advantage like that, fair days pay for a fair days work and all that :y

Ahhh dear old Lorries..... ;D

I kinda have a love hate relationship with them, love being a drivers mate but hate them being on the roads at all other times.

Im sorry too say you do get the idiots who think as there bigger they will do just as they bloody well please...mate of mine used too drive the tippers, his favourite saying was ""They soon move when they see the wheel nuts spinning past there passenger window"".

The guy was deadly serious as well.... :o

Tonight coming into work had an Arctic driving like a complete cock...The roundabout leading onto the A14 has two lanes going over and round and onto the A14 slip (slips dual lane).

I pull up in the inside lane as im in no rush...arctic pulls up in outside lane, traffic flow around the roundabout means im level with his cab all the way round (not good as its got an adverse camber) and neck and neck down the dual slip road....low and behold he doesn't have enough speed too pull onto A14 and get out of the way (cars can quite easily) so instead he insists on trundling along the full slip road forcing my self and 3/4 cars behind me too virtually come too a halt before joining the A14....not a huge problem on a Sunday afternoon but complete suicide on a weekday evening.

in lgv i peronally would not be in that situation as my blind spot (nearside front corner) is always kept clear. but the vehicles that was behind you could be classed as undertaking
and unless the roundabout is roadmarked differenly then any exit that is past 12 o clock from entry then the driver should use a right hand signal and the right hand lane if it is a 2 lane approach

On a dual road you are not undertaking if you are simply keeping up with the traffic :)

When I was on the wagons, road works were my PET hate. WHY O WHY do CAR drivers think that they can stay lane 3 right up to the cones when they know that the lane is going to close at least 800meters before.

Pull into lane 2 (Wide...off side wheels sitting ON the white line to lane 3 and stay exactly where I was, behind the vehicle I was following in lane 1. then wait untill the lane closes down in 3 before moving back into 1. it's surprising how quickly the traffic flows through these bottle necks if people filter in within a reasonable time.

It's not the "Proffessional Driver" that is at fault in MOST cases, it's the arrogant / Iggnorant "I need to get somewhere quickly" car/van driver.

If you want to force your way through traffic get a blue light.

rant over  >:(

I have quite a bit of sympathy with truck drivers, they need to earn a living and if they lose speed it can take a long time to build it up again etc,but it does p155 me off when I am sat behind one in the right hand lane of a dual carriageway doing 56 mph overtaking another one who is doing 55.5 mph. It might save him 5 minutes every 150 miles but it annoys hundreds of motorists in the process,

I was pulling traction a few years ago and we delivered the building slabs for the new Parliment building. We had the last 3 trailers going up on a sunday morning and as I lived not far from the docks I said to the other 2 drivers that i would get the crane driver to piggy back the trailers and that they could get off home. I waited until the last of the slabs had been unloaded and got the crane driver to sort the trailers, strapped them down and off i went around Parliment Square and waited at a set of lights to turn LEFT onto The Embankment. As I pulled away and started to turn I heard this screech and a crunch, looked in the mirrors, nothing. started to edge forward and there was a loud crunch. Some STUPID WOMAN had tried to go up the inside while I was turning left. her exact words to the boys in blue was " HE CUT ME UP... work that out.

75 ft long
8 ft 6 in wide
25 ft high
24 ton
accelerates like a brick

AND I CUT HER UP...

Boys in blue looked and just laughed.

Yep would have to agree, but why have a speed restriction that is often removed, or does not  work because of the weight of the load.
Why are tucks limited and vans / cars not? because it is dangerous as I think the comments on this thread would show. ::)

I have always said that you need to drive / ride other vehicles to understand how they need to use the road...Having done it all I feel I have quite a good understanding, and drive accordingl... ;D

More to the point is, WHY are Scottish, Irish and European Trucks exempt able to get around the limiter rule.

I suppose the restriction is there because 44 tons takes a lot longer to stop from high speed than cars etc.Although a lot of the trucks from both parts of Ireland seem to have faulty restrictors,as they go like break. ;)
