Mobile Phone Money Back / Recycling Sites ???
« on: 16 February 2009, 00:17:44 »

I have looked at a number of websites for mobile phone recycling (for cash).  Thinking of sending an N95 that I have no use for to one as it says I can get £107 for the mobile from them (its called Fonebank).

Has anyone on here done something similiar and do you actually get the money??????

Its probably almost as much as I'd get on ebay.., and a lot less hassle.

When i have looked at these the phones have only been worth pennies, even the good old basic Nokia's favoured in African countires, not frill wanted :(

£107 for a N95 is a good price....id take it.

Ebay possibly less than £100 plus fee"s.

Yes I was a little surprised at the price they offered lol (the Blackberry 9000 I have just upgraded to and would have cost an absolute fortune new they only give £60 back on lol).  The only thing i can think of is that N95's must be very popular in Africa for some reason!

Hmm...bit suspect. The advert I've seen states you send the phone and they send you the money after they asses the condition etc.

If they value it significantly lower than the initial quote, what can you do about it ?

I've read the fine print and it looks like for the fonebank, the price they quote is the price you get as long as the phone works (switches on) and the LCD screen is not damaged.  As I have just replaced the LCD screen (intending to sell the phone on ebay) and it definitely switches on, I don't see how they can disagree with the quote.

But time will tell.  I leave an update on this site in a few days. I am a little concerned but still think its worth a try as I wouldn't do much with the phone anyway.  Selling a phone on ebay is full of quite a few risks as well.

http://www.mobilephonerecycling.co.uk/view_mobile_phone.aspx?id=8

That site compares prices you can get back on mobiles.  The most offered was £20 for an 8100.  Scratches don't matter though, the phone just has to turn on.., and have a working LCD screen.

For some reason, even originally expensive phones often don't fetch much money.  Nokia's seem to do quite well though.

I'm sure you have all heard of the good work the Birmingham Childrens Hospital does, well at the moment they are involved in kitting out the Kidney Unit.
Quote:
The BBC WM Kidney Kids appeal is the biggest campaign the station has run and hopes to raise £1.5 million for a new kidney unit at one of the world's leading children’s hospitals.
They are collecting all old/used mobile phones. Please put them in a 'Jiffy' Bag.

You can post your unwanted mobiles to:

FREEPOST
WEEE RECYCLE MOBILES
And write Kidney Kids on the back of the envelope

Start rummaging now! It doesn't matter if it's broken or damaged.

But remember the newer the phone – the more money it will generate!
It is for a very good cause!

Recently used ENVIROFONE.COM to get rid of our old Nokia 6500 slide.....

They were brilliant, quick, fair and easy......

there are ways of getting more money for a mobile but if you just want a bit of money to get shot of it I highly recommend them.

Just go to their website, register and accept their offered price (given immediately and online) and they will send you out a prepaid envelope in a couple of days, just put the phone in and send it back. About a week later you either get a chq or argos voucher of slightly higher value than their cash offer.

They check the phone isnt stolen and that it works as it should, if there are any problems i believe they contact you and offer to return your phone without charge to you.

Recommend them.
