Major local VX and Saab dealer in Medway has closed,or as it was reported in local paper as "not had ist franchise renewed by Vauxhall.
When I went ther other day all cars had gone and place was stripped,so wonder how many other dealers are feeling the squeeze.
Thats a bit strange this one, I go past Greens in Rainham and they have no cars in forecourt or showroom, but seem to have people working in there and cars in back of carpark by workshop area :-? :-? Must go in there on premise of needing to buy some bits and find out what the score is. The SAAB dealership in snodland has'nt had a car in there for months and that showroom is only 2-3 years old ,which is not that good

Im not surprised, i picked my Irmy up from Greens in Rainham, they might of well have give it me ::) It would help if they had an idea about what they were selling, even if it was a trade in. Their loss, my gain 8-)

My moneys on one of the following

Vauxhall
Jaguar
Land Rover
Ford
or Honda

Wont be Honda.....the site in Swindon employs nearly that many.....well did  :(
However it wouldnt suprise me in the least if Honda closed its Swindon plant totally....and went back home. Which would be disaterous for Swindon  :(

Jaguar has changed hands a lot, but so has Aston Martin.  Could be either of them.

Luton would go first as they make 'not a lot' there these days

I have a suspicion on Jag.....possibly Land Rover to.

Ow yes, Saab have filed for protection, they have NOT called in the administrators (totaly different).

Its to buy time to re-structure in order to make them a viable stand alone buisness

No more vectra-Saabs then?
It would be nice to see companies like Saab going back too being relatively small companies with their own individual characteristics etc;
I would imagine it might be difficult for them to survive in the longer term though, with things such as development costs being so expensive these days.

I'd imagine that the likes of SAAB would spread their development costs by going into partnerships with other car companies ,much like Suzuki and Kawasaki m/cycles have. But then SAAB were always a bit different to other cars being so in looks and styling, not a bad thing in some ways as they all seem to much of a much nowdays

It would seem that all are feeling the squeeze.
Question is, what is the root cause  ??
Not providing what the buying public want, or something banal as too high prices for cars and servicing ??

Sad thing is, that all the sub-contractors who supply electrical components, lights, etc, will also be hit...

Who the hell do the BBC think they are, reporting such a story without naming the company involved.

it seems to be hitting manufacturing hard at the moment. I was working for Leyland trucks up until the 12 of December but luckily i fell straight into the lpg scene as im a qualified mechanic.

From my point of view they all seem to be panicking becuase everybody else is, the thing is they will all regret laying people off and closing plants when the market picks back up, because no-one will want to go back incase it happens again.

It's a real shame it is hitting the industry and it doesnt help when Unite is the union for most of them. They dont seem to be doing anything, and the reason being is becuase unite officials are employed by the company and they are employed by unite so there not really bothered what happens.

It's like when i had my consultation the union rep just sat there and said nohting, and thats the bloke i was paying 10pounds a month to.

I just hope it picks back really soon.

They should just put everyone on partime hours for a short peiod at least that way everyone has a job and when the time comes for the market to pick back up they wont look so stupid.

Annoying thing about union reps is that, most times, they have a chat with managers before the employee goes in. All sorted before employee gets a chance.

So what happened to end up as an LPG installer?

At leastt if you get an Omega in to convert you know where to ask for advice.

I have seen pro installs which were not good - eg ECU within the air box

I was doing a year as a lpg converotr but then the business collapsed as partners couldnt see eye to eye but the guy who i was working for has set back up himself.

I have come across the gas ecu's installed in the airbox, not good and cheap installs. We make a bracket that we bolt to the bulkhead or at the side of the battery box, depends where room is and what type of gas installation they want, the worst one weve done has got to be a hummer, no room wot so eva!!!
