it seems to be hitting manufacturing hard at the moment. I was working for Leyland trucks up until the 12 of December but luckily i fell straight into the lpg scene as im a qualified mechanic.
From my point of view they all seem to be panicking becuase everybody else is, the thing is they will all regret laying people off and closing plants when the market picks back up, because no-one will want to go back incase it happens again.
It's a real shame it is hitting the industry and it doesnt help when Unite is the union for most of them. They dont seem to be doing anything, and the reason being is becuase unite officials are employed by the company and they are employed by unite so there not really bothered what happens.
It's like when i had my consultation the union rep just sat there and said nohting, and thats the bloke i was paying 10pounds a month to.
I just hope it picks back really soon.
They should just put everyone on partime hours for a short peiod at least that way everyone has a job and when the time comes for the market to pick back up they wont look so stupid.
