PCI card help please

i seem to remember reading a topic about pci cards for CCTV on here(can't find it now)
i know that pci cards are for desktops, but is there a pci card/interface for connecting to a laptop?
I've got 4 cctv cameras around the house and i would love to be able to
A- stop buying a new vcr off ebay every 2months due to nackered heads,
B- be able to record via the laptop, not onto tape
C- be able to view cameras anywhere via the internet

Who knows about this stuff...?

Not really up on home security using pc/lappy ..... but i think you mean pcmcia slot....prolly summat available on fleabay, just use pcmcia in the search string.

Ever thought of getting a Video Recorder with a HD in it instead?
Mines got a 160Gb disk in it.....and records for blinking ages....mines a couple of years old now.....but there pretty cheap these days  :y

i'm here
i wouldn't use a laptop there get to hot being on all the while
get a old p3 computer it will run cams fine
i use pico2000 on windows 2000
welung666 uses i-catcher on windows xp

i tried i-catcher and both me and welung666 had problems

ive gone back to pico2000 and i am able to view my cams over the net from another computer with a simple little program i have put on my usb dongle

Could you give me specs to look for please mate.

I know a little regarding PC's,

I'm guessing very small processor, 80gb hd enough?ram?

with xp/2000/M.E installed?

just an old p3 computer with about 125mb ram or more with windows 2000
the pci cards are on flebay ill get you the link for the ones there only about £6 or £7 delivered from hong kong

the program comes with the program i use its a bit of a pain to set up but once done its great
you get motion detection so it only records when there is movement
you can set times for motion detection

lots of different stuff
even get it to call you

you can get decent hdd based security recorders for not much cash - certainly seem to be more reliable than the cheaper pc based ones i've seen

ive been using mine for some time now and had no problems
still going strong now
ive resently upgraded the computer i was running and now useing an old p4 ive got 2 pci cards in and running all my cams fine

i'm thinking about adding an extra cam to it the one's that work as a door spy hole

you can have 4 cards running on a computer giving you 16 cams

ive got 2 cards running on mine

that sounds soo easy put i just wouldn't know where to start. i'm sure for a few quid i could get a ''plug and play'' desktop?

Ouch! Leaving a P4 on 24/7 is gonna hurt the leccy bill...  ...been there, done that ;D
