Agree with mr entwood and vauxfan here, of course the migs will slowly but surely disappear but this forum is primarily about the omega. As a forum it already serves its social side under general chat and others which is probably equally as important to forum members as the tech. stuff. Just remember that most of the users joined in the first place because they own an omega. Im a member of the toyota estima site and , as that car is similarly aging, they face the same problem. Basically, people join because they want some tech help and as time moves on and you get to know people then the social side becomes equally important. Next thing you know, theyve had to get rid of the old car and replaced it by a new one, possibly a different make too, but they still want to remain on the forum as theyve made friends there. Havent seen any comments by users on either site to say that these people are no longer welcome. That seems fine by me, but as for a sep. section for "other cars" , I cant see the point. A) Im sure help could be found under existing headings and B) there could be so many different new cars that impossible to cater for them all and joining new forums for specific cars would be the way to go for people. For those who want to stay in touch online then why not let it remain the oof and let it remain to provide tech info for those who still run the a mig , whilst serving an increasingly social role for ex mig owning members as they have to change cars.

I can see both sides but I've got to ebb towards the people saying General Chat covers enough of the other cars and other stuff. I feel it would take away from the fact that this is an Omega forum first and foremost.

How do you see things long term?

As things change and the Omega becomes less common then it can be reviewed surely!

Realistically the omega will never completely die out, the following reasons explain why

1) They were mass produced and available to most of the european countries.

2)There will always be true enthusiasts that will rebuild, customise, ressurect older ones.

3) If you compare the omega to say the mk2 escort, there is significantly less escorts about today, yet they have a massive following with a large forum/web based info system

I dont see the miggy's retirement as an issue

Twice now i've over reacted to members saying "this is a car forum" or an "Omega" forum so i'm not going to be gobby tonight. Migs won't last forever, we all have to accept that. Whilst i have interests in other cars (classics) i don't feel we have a need for a new section. This is easily covered in general chat. the whole idea of g. chat is in my view for folk to chat about day to day life, music, burnt my dinner, bought a fiesta for £100 & sold it for £200 etc. Chatting brings folk together. We all love our Migs but it's a myopic view that thinks we should talk about nothing else, there is more to life.
    So to sum up NO. General chat will suffice other cars, but please, some of you, stop posting on general chat "this is a car forum" we know that but it's the diversity of members characters that's made this forum the success it is. General chat allows us "chat" about other topics. Guy.

I love classic cars but most people don't. As Omegas become classic most folk won't want them any more than you'd want my Cortina or any other 30 yr old car now, any remaining will be classics. Will we still be able to get the sensors, body panels, engine parts etc.?
   If you're not into classic cars now i doubt you'd want to buy & run a Mig in 25/30years time.

Year or your? I managed a good old fashioned Eng. Lang. O level & i imagine members will have the savvy to arrive at the conclusion it's not a 30 your old car. Grammatical abbreviations are acceptable in english language.

I'm with Amigo! I run my Mig alongside 4 40+ 'year' old Morris Minors' the oldest being 55 this year. A classic will only be a classic if it has enough of a following! I'm sticking with my miggy!

Yes the text speak is annoying,but also,this is the way young people communicate these days rightly or wrongly,if someone is used to 'texting' in this way then its not so easy to change....

Other efforts to reduce text speak have repeatedly failed.  This one seems to be having better effectiveness.  Its a sad state of affairs that its temporarily necessary, after all, its a simple request  :-?

Yes, it does occasionally pick up where it shouldn't, there is never going to be a solution to that, be it censoring a crap language, swear words, whatever.

I wouldn't expect The Queen's English type grammar here - jeez, my grammar and spelling is about as poor as it gets sometimes, but for crying out loud...

In the case of simpler mobile phones, due to the difficulty in typing it, text speak still has a place - on mobile phones when texting. Not on an internet forum where 99% of users are going to have a full keyboard.


If you can think of another way of preventing talking like a bunch of gay teenagers without taking up any more of my time, I'm all ears...
