maybe its me being over protected again with my kids but im not sure what to think.  i know its on the increase a lot in britain but need a bit of advice. what are the signs, my youngest seems to break out in sweats for no reason, knackered after a 10 min walk. wakes up dripping in sweat usually after taking ages to get to sleep. would it be worth taking him up the hosp, or can he get a walk in test done anywhere, or home testing kits??

I was diagnosed type 2 last may , symptom was unable to read number plates clearly from about 30 foot. they did a blood test  results were 18.4 - should be between 4 - 8

best bet is take him down the Quacks for a blood test very quick - prick the finger drop of blood on strip,  stick in hand held machine , few seconds later you have the answer

he seems to be half a mile behind me when we are walking, always drinking something, hes actually sitting besides me now with sweat pouring off him. im shivering and the window is wide open.

I think they call that embarrassment, don't work yourself up into a bother, make and appointment and take him to a doctor, will answer your questions in moments.

I would advise going to the doctor,

i told my x to do that but she doesnt see anything wrong, so will do it myself on monday, im a real worrier, just like my mother, not a good way to be.

you can get a stick for him to wee on and check sugar level. simpler than pricking his finger and think can be got from a chemist.

at least you havent got to go for stress counselling. im still waiting for an appt. what good it will do is beyond me i think.  :-/

That doesnt sound a very controlled test for diabetes.....
Test results are dependant on what you've eaten and drunk in the previous 24hrs.
I had a diabetes test done about a year ago as part of other blood tests......my result was 10.....but marked on the test as uncontrolled....as they didnt know what i had eaten in the previous 24hours......so my doc wanted another one done, controlled.
I had to fast for 24hours, only allowed water.
Test results were 7 this time
My Doc reckons its borderline, so wants an 'absolute' test done.
This test (which i havent had done yet) involves again fasting for 24hours....blood test done, then drink a glucose mixture, sit and wait for 2 hours, and then another blood test done.....apparently it tests your body for tolerance to sugar......

That is very unusual TD, as usually you have to fast only from 2200 hours the night before the morning of your test.

This result gives an "average" sugar level, rather than purely a "spot check" one taken just two hours after eating.

The ideal blood sugar level is 5.7 8-)
