Our postie is brilliant,he cant half talk though,he would stay talking all day long if you let him. :)
Mine too, for some elderly/lonely rural residents `round here; postie`s van brings a daily 'breath of fresh air' and a friendly face along with the mail drop. :y
[/highlight]

best get prepaired for that to end then
because if the prime minister and the thingy Mandelson get there way and they do sell 30% off to tnt or dutche post then there will be no rural deliveries it will be delivered to the nearest post office for the locals to collect
hows this for progress, and for the enviroment,
this is the next thing on the list , royal mail is getting rid of 144 bikes and repacing them with 72 vans, so posties have to go out in twos
it is sposed to be a cost saving excersise,
they forget that vans need fuel servicing and insurance and tax and a bike dont lol.
oh well progress .

Sadly, you are correct Andy; we have already lost our 'local' (7 miles away!) sorting office......and our nearest Post Office is 10 miles distant; hardly a quick daily-trip to collect one`s mail if the Government`s "blue sky idea" of DIY postal service, comes to fruition.
A decent, reliable, trustworthy postal service is one of the marks of a civilised nation; we all know the R.M is offering a pale shadow of it`s former service....evidently, things will get much worse yet.

Mandelson gives me the creeps - I wish someone would put it out of our misery!
