Similiar thing happened when I sold the old Omega...
Had it up for £900, some bloke come round who I could barely understand... offered me £200, going on about him 'having a buyer for it' and some other crap. also tried saying:
The exhaust was blowing as he could smell the fumes
Rust on the doors was too bad (bubbling on the usual places, and even then less than the norm)
Went on about it being high mileage (130k on a 98-R) and that the engine will need replacing
Also tried fobbing me off saying the suspension was goosed as when he put it in drive and reverse (was an auto) it would dip and lift the rear as normal, but tried saying it shouldn't

He got told where to go...
Exhaust was *brand new GM* fitted 8 months prior at Vauxhall for a tidy sum... The only reason he could smell the fumes was because the chump had parked right up the rear of the car, I didn't even have enough room to open the boot!
Car also had full history, with receipts for cambelt & tensioners change just 2k prior to it being sold...
Sold the car the following day for £850 to some local chap, job done...
Although the guy that offered me £200 came back the afternoon after it sold with his friend and £250 expecting me to try sell it to him. Kept trying to pressure us to tell him who bought it. Bloody chump, he only understood when my mother (who had been listening in) had enough and came storming out with her walking stick in the air telling him to "break Awwwf" as Father Jack would say
