Nice one Douggie. I owned a red s reg 120y back in the day & i'd happily thrash it back to that big old chaz'dave sideboard gramaphone, somewhere to put your beer & the sound was determined by how many 2p pieces you put on the stylus. Those were the days when wireless meant something completely different!!! :D

It all started with a pair of homebrewed speakers based on a Hi-Fi world article from about 15 years back.

Then pair of home brewed valve monoblock amps similar to the Mullard 5-20 (EL34 push-pull ultralinear). I also have one or two solid state amps in occasional use, all home brewed bar a NAD 7130 receiver bought second hand (about 19 years ago). :o

I've just built a DAC (I say built it. More a case of buying the pcb on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140303824575, putting it in a case and reworking the analogue output section which was clearly "designed" by someone who had no idea what he was doing). It's sounding pretty impressive for 40 quid now.

My CD collection now lives on a Linux based server encoded in FLAC and streamed to a couple of Slim Devices squeezeboxes, one of which feeds the above DAC.

Other sources include an Arcam CD player, Technics FM tuner (15 quid at a junk sale) and a Technics direct drive turntable (10 quid at a junk sale).

We're still using the Sansui amplifier and speakers we bought in 1975.  Sounds excellent still, even though we have to connect the CD player (Sony, 1992 approximately) via the AUX input.  The tuner, turntable and cassette player are all (full size mid-range) Sony kit of various vintages - we've replaced the Lenco-Goldring turntable and JVC tape unit we originally had.  Don't actually know if the cassette unit still works - haven't used it for years.

The TV was a 24" Sony CRT we've had for 10 years or more, but it died 3 nights ago - haven't got round to taking the back off to see if I can fix it.  We're managing with the equally ancient portable.

I've got an excellent full size Akai stereo stack in my office - bought it about 6 years ago for £4 at the local Scout auction.

Ok, here's what ive just installed, complicated i know, but i think it is worth the money.

First pic is the sound system, didn't want to go for seperates, wanted to keep it all tidy and room was limited

I thought this was the best value and picture quality is second to none on the market

With the little cash i had left, i thought i would add a bit of class to the bedroom

my dad had one of those stereos, the speakers slotted in the side and there was 2 drop down flaps for the sound to come out the bottom. i think he upgraded to a ferguson music centre after for his james last he used to play non stop  ;D ;D

Here is an old photo of my setup, can't seem to find any recent ones.

It's pictured with a Cambridge Amp, thats been upgraded to a Marantz PM2002. The speakers has been upgraded to Wharfdale Diamond 9.1 on Altacama stands.
Source is a Cambridge Azur 640 V2.

In the back am running a Tacima 929 mains conditioner, a Gotham GAC-1 interconnect 50cm, QED Silver anniversary XT cables with Air-loc plugs and a set of Grado SR80 headphones :)

Denon S301 2.1 surround sound system with Speakers on Stands in Silver perfectly matching TV. Evoke Wireless DAB portable lives in in Kitchen - accesses DAB, Internet Radio, Evoke Server. In garage wired to garden speakers is my old Kenwood system - cost a £1000 in 1992 but great sound and perfect operation even today despite the dust and change in temperature.
