Mobile Phone Security tips.
« on: 09 March 2009, 22:33:43 »

Thisis not a joke.Four things you probably never knew your mobile could do .There are a few things that can be done in an emergency.Your mobile can actually be a life saver or be an emergency tool for servival .First-The Emergency Number Worldwide for Mobile is 112.  If you find yourself out of coverage area of your mobile network, and there is an emergency,Dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialled even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.    Second :Have you locked your keys in the car? Does your car have remote keyless entry?  IF you lock the keys in the car , and have a spare set at home ,call some one at home on their mobile from your mobile. Hold your mobile a foot from the car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button holding it near the mobile their end.  your car will unlock .saves the courier rates. distance no object, you could be in another country as long as you can reach someone with the other remote  for your car you can unlock the doors or boot/trunk.    TRy it IT Works.    Third- Hidden Battery Power: Ifyour mobile battery is low .To activate, press the STAR key 3370#.Your mobile will show a50% increase  of stored reserved power. This reserved will berestored during a normal charge.   Fourth:  Stolen mobile phones.    To check your phone serial number, key in the following digitson your phone star #06#. A15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset.Write it down and keep it safe. If your phone is stolen ,you can phone your service provider and give this code . They will then be able to block your handset , so even if the thief changethe SIM card your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get the phone back but you will no one could use or sell it on.        sandune

1 is true (ish) - there are one or 2 netowkrs around world that need valid sim

2 doesn't work

3 half rate on nokias. will improve battery life, but won't find extra power from flat battery

4 IMEI also on a sticker under battery.

I have yet to find a mobile network that will roam onto another provider to call a 999 call! if i have no 02 signal and call 999 my phone doesnt miraculously jump onto vodafone! it just says error connecting call

GSM cannot cary IRDA/IF Radio signalls over a telephone call so opening your keys with ya car doesnt work we have tried all these nonsense things at work and none of it works

i have worked for a blue chip telecomms company for 5 years others on this site have have worked in telecomms for alot longer one member even works for a leading switch manufacturer

There are organised phone thieves that steal phones and reverse engineer IMEI's not in this country thankfully

but its easy to change on certain phones

As I understand it emergency number roaming isn't available in the UK -- but the main networks are working on it at the moment, and it isn't far off.

Actually all GSM mobiles will make emergency calls on whatever network they can find. If they can't find their home network or a network onto which they can roam they will silently camp on whatever's available ready to make an emergency call.

You can even make an emergency call without a SIM in the mobile. DON'T try making emergency calls. Leave them for those who need them.

There are even manufacturers outside Europe who can't be arsed to use a proper IMEI when they make phones. >:(

TMX, if you had to ring 112 your phone would work, with or without a sim.  :y

The network doesn't necessaily have to connect the call, but the phone will try. I have seen them connect, too. :-X

Yup i agree, your phone will work on 112..... on your own network for definate, but 999 will use any available network, however this as well as using it without a sim is a pain in the arse for the operator as they cant get name or address details, and if there is no sim , obviously there is no phone number when the call comes through - kids clicked onto this a few years ago ....little buggers made our life hell (unless the mobile manufacturers  have stopped this from happening) - yes i was a hello girl for B.T  :-[

Also you find the problem with 112 is it is recognised from landlines - to help our foreign visitors  as they use this number in this country but what happens is with older sagging overhead lines or poor quality cables when they bang about wires can touch and when they touch it is like pulse dialling and can easily tap out one click one click then two clicks (1 1 2) which registers as an emergency call o mrs is doing cleaning and polishing the phone and catches the pips, 1 1 2, but obviously  its a silent call which  if there is no answer when ringing back then means a police man has to be torn away from being available to go and investigate i mean from doing paperwork :D
The worst for this were aa call boxes !

Yeah, when 112 was introduced, I was still doing a real job running up and down poles, and that was a real pain (my area was a rural area with loads of spans of overhead through wooded areas.
