In the 1990's I worked for a large soft funishings chain who now have stores all over the uk. I have two ear-rings in my left ear, the area manager asked me to remove them (after I had worked there for quite a while). I asked if the women employees had also got to remove their rings. He told me not to be awkward, I removed the rings but said that I wanted to state that I was not happy to do so, but would do it. I left the job a few weeks later. >:(

My current job involves delivering to peoples houses and my boss is fine about my two ear-rings :)

I am afraid that all employers have a right to demand a certain image of their employees if in a face to face public service role.  This has been true for years and still is.  Your choice is either to give them what they want, or go for another job. ;)

As for smoking in the work place, in your case the coach - a works vehicle - that is now illegal as it affects members of the public that use it and other employees. ::) ::)

Sorry to be direct on this and seemingly unsympathetic, which I am not, but just stating it as it is as a business manager. ;)

It has always been illegal to smoke on a coach,( i know that and make sure it dont smell ) , just as it is illegal to drink alcohol or be in possession of alcohol lol

As for the work thing, surely if they employed me with the peircings in they could see what image i would give and therefore should have advised me of this when they offered me my job???

As for hols, we have mentioned it, advised of the government website  etc but they "insist" we are all wrong lol

Wouldnt care the job was a two week stop-gap when i started  :'(

Totally agree with you...check your contract and see exactly what it say in that regards tatts and piercings.

I had the same employed wearing studs in both ears yet 2 years later asked too remove them, wasnt a problem as grew out of them but flatly refuse too wear thick white shirts so tatts dont show.

In fact getting inner forearm done soon so cant wait for boss too hit the roof... ;D
