Paint job
« on: 12 March 2009, 10:43:11 »

Ok what  advice can anyone give me regarding having a paint job on my car. I am having the bumpers resprayed and a small rust patch fixed up on the tailgate. I will be collecting the car on Friday and knowing it has been in a workshop i would like to give it a clean (subject to weather ::)). The thing is, is it advisable to wash new paintwork so soon after it has been done or should i give it some time curing before i give it a good clean :-/

Cheers

Leave it for a couple of days for paint to harden.  Leave for further week before thinking of polishing!!

From what i can remember its always better to leave it a couple of weeks before giving it a good clean and a bit longer before polishing it...

Hi - any car I have ever had painted is washed before I collect it by the garage - it does get dusty in the body shop  so I would imagine that it would be washed for you collecting it as a matter of course :y

I also know for a fact that the body shop I use will paint a car in the morning then fit it up and wash with a pressure washer for an afternoon collection so I dont think you will do any damage :)

Yes will put  up some pics.Collected it yesterday and really pleased with the results. The paintshop said not to polish it for a month but it is ok to wash it. The warm weather helps the paint to cure nicely :y

The longer u leave it the harder the paint will get so i would leave it for a good 2-3 weeks before washing it :y
