Yeah but too be fair who can understand a strong Geordie accent or a Rough scots or Northern irish accent. ;D

Actually i think it should a prerequisite that the English is fluent...many a time ive spoken too an Asian who couldn't understand a single word ive said and vice versa.

My missus had too pass a very stringent interview and a oral exam (no not that kinda oral) before they granted her a visa too enter the country, then a very difficult exam too gain her British nationality.

I agree to an extent, but accent has to be different though, and what about teenage speak..... ::)

::) Teenagers can be linguistically clever: "Innit" is a statement an interjective and an interrogative (and also; verbal punctuation). ;D

Yes, those that want to live in an completely 'Asian' environment; surrounded by people of the same ethnic and religious leaning, keeping themselves away from all things British, in a city of mosques and where people don`t want to speak English; I agree, then we should send them back to where they came from, a place where they would feel completely at home.............Bradford! ;D

He gets a big thumbs up from me  :y

More people coming to the UK should follow his example.

When I was little living in Saudi Arabia I lived in a compound shared with dutch nationals, the school was run half the week in english, half the week in dutch.  I learnt dutch and even some Arabic.  I was 5.

When I lived in France, I made the effort to become fluent and mix in the with the french.  It's their country after all and in fact its the Parisians who give the french a bad name.  Many French love the English beleive it or not.

When I was engaged to a Sri Lankan and went over to visit her family I learnt some phrases like hello, how are you and thank you.  Its normal.

Now living in Germany I make the best effort I can in teh shops and get by.  Even if I dont know or make a pigs ear of my German, they speak to me in very good english but they appreciate the effort.  I then ask them for the correct German and learn.

So asking for someone who wants to live in the UK, must work to earn their stay, learn English using it regularly and mix into British culture and society.  Dont get me wrong I am pro immigration, the UK is a better place for it.  I love experiencing other cultures and I am happy for others to retain some of their identity when they come here but to force me to change mine for their benefit..... oh no matey!

Just my 2 cents  :y
