Got to slow down !
« on: 02 April 2009, 00:32:54 »

got caught speeding tonight by the boys in blue,on the M11 in rather a hurry on the bike, next thing a volvo with all the lights flashing and the passenger pointing at the hard shoulder. My last speeding offence was in 1978,my radar must be worn out. :'( :'( :'(
The copper was a decent sort, said I was going far too fast to get a warning but he booked me for the slowest speed they clocked me at so I get fine/points,if he had used the highest speed they recorded it would have been a long ban at least. ::) :( :'(

Bad luck matey, but good news to a degree.  Sounds like you have got away with it lightly this time. ::) :-X

your absolutely right sktuntie, the copper was also a biker,he said he observed my riding and that I was riding well in all respects, just far too fast (between 90-125).I have spent almost 30 years working within spitting distance of home, but now have a 36 mile round trip so no licence = no job,so the time has come to keep the speed a bit more sensible.

what to say without sounding patronising, er
Been there done that,
Been very lucky with the coppers that i didnt see
Been very lucky with the cars that didnt see me
Been very lucky NOTto be on the usual Sunday ride out where a mate hit an on coming bike, killed him and lost his own arm with 18 months in jail for the trouble. Its just not the place anymore.

I love bikes cant live without them, but they keep getting faster and traffic keep getting slower, so track days only for me, before i kill myself/someone else. Oh, and the small matter of keeping a license to earn a living.

Take the car mate, put some race plastics on the bike, lower the gearing and get a tow bar and trailer for track days.
That should slow you down on the road. ;D

Nah, still sounds patronising.

Yeah right you got to slow down.... too much of a speed like a craze but it is dangerous too. So watch out for it.

Doesnt sound patronising at all Chris, sounds like common sense tbh, only fly in the ointment is the cost of trackdays. They charge a lot of money to thrash round Brands for a day. :(

I'am 49 years of age ...............and really have been a habitual speeder for as long as I care to remember........although usually I consider myself to be a safe and competent driver /rider on both cars and bikes.............so you'll get no lectures from me Albitz.

The very young 16-19 year olds............and the very old ......coffin dodgers are the biggest danger in my opinion. :y :y :y :y :y

Same age as me optomist,I think my lack of youth had an influence on the copper tbh,he asked me a few questions about how long I had been riding etc,how far from home my workplace was,and then said "this country is shit enough to live in these days without having your livliehood taken away,so on this occasion I will go with the lowest recorded speed so you dont go to court and get an automatic ban."
He was pretty ugly but I was tempted to give him a kiss. :D ;)
I reckon Loo knee is going to have a right laugh when he reads this thread. ::) ;D

Brands is over priced imho and the short circuit is very short. Snerterton is cheaper, dont forget Lyden and Goodwood although not seen them on the calender for a while, they are ok on a 600, bit mickey on anything bigger so i havent looked into those.

Also you wont need tax and insurance on the bike, so 2 or 3 track days there possibly?

Actually,Snetterton is about the same distance from me as Brands,I do love the long circuit at Brands though,I think it is the best circuit in the U.K. by far,I was hoping to do a tyrack day there this summer anyway, but it will depend on funds etc; :y
If I was going to do track days as a serious hobby I think I would have a litre bike though.

Don't slow down TOO much Albitz....................it's the thin end of the wedge..........first you slow down..................then you don't notice pretty girls any more............then you buy a cardigan with wooden buttons................then you get really excited about going to the garden centre on a Sunday morning .............instead of having a good shag.......and then...................... :y :y :y :y :y :y :y

I couldn't possibly criticise, esp as I've noticed my speed increasing....

On the bike, however, since my little off a few years back, I've calmed down, and quite steady really.  I've probably lost my mojo  :-[

After collecting the Elite last night i was very very good with speed...had cruise set too 65mph as journey was 185 miles ish and computer said 140 ish.....soooo looked like i was walking the last 40 odd miles.

But with the steady cruise the fuel comp kept rising and rising...until it hit 240 miles left in tank at which point knowing i could get home sports button engage and foot tried too go through floor..... ;D

Bugger me just started too get up too a decent (very naughty but nice) speed i notice Mr policeman sitting on hard shoulder (probably cracking one off over Doughnut monthly) so made a rapid but safe slow down and just pootled home. ;D
