KA drivebelt replaement...
« on: 03 April 2009, 20:09:16 »

Hi guys, my girlfriend has a 1.3 KA that needs a new drivebelt.  It has cracks all on the groves and it starting to squeal!  I can't seem to find any decent forums etc to find any info on it.  It looks quite difficult to get to.

Does anyone have any experience of changing the drivebelt on a KA or know where I can get some info other that buying a haynes manual for it?

Cheers,

Richard

Umm - rubber bands the postman leaves?

Isn't it the old Fester engine?

Try Halfords

i think if you take the off side wheel off there is a plstic panel to take off to give you access to belt . just turn belt tensioner with 1/2 in drive ratchet anti clock wise to take tension off belt . best thing to do is make a drawing of pullies and belt for refitting( not a hard  job bit tight) :y

Pushrod rattly tappety pile of shite.

The setups do differ slightly with most being tensioned off the alternator via a geared bolt.

I nearly had a fight once with someone accusing my Sunbeam of being a Horriblizon - they rattled for Europe (French engine) the British Sunbeam engine was an excellent design for a 4 cylinder push rod lump

Cheers guys, I will have a look at it tomorrow I think.  Looks a very tight job!

Mark, unfortunately we can't all persuade our other halves to also drive an Omega  :(  I have chucked some radweld in yesterday so will see what happens, not managed to have a go at the EGR bolt yet though :(

I've never tried that for cracks in aux drive belts :D

BTW.  Put the KA upside down on the kitchen table.  Access is easier.

Well I did it, did have to take the wheel and the arch liner off to get at it but still a bastard job!  Got dirt and rust all over my face and the new belt was 2cm shorter than the old one so getting it back on was stupidly hard as it was so tight getting it over the bottom pully.  I got there in the end and a few pennies saved.  The missus thinks something is going to go wrong with it though so hopefully it will all be fine and all will be good.

It's a shame that there is not a KA community like we have on oof.  I couldn't find any info about the job and the only KA forum I found was about chavving them up and you had to pay to look at the forum....  I originally was surprised that with them being so common that there was no info online then I remembered that they are mainly driven by women who generally speaking dont have a clue so just take them into a garage!
