Are MOT testers on a "Fail Rate Target"?

Put the QX in for the dreaded test, having checked it over and feeling fairly confident .... flaming thing failed !!!!!

I had removed all the Air Fresheners etc., too  >:( >:(

What's written on the fail sheet ? ............

"Rear number plate lamp flickers when you tap it"

At least it's only a new bulb but, Flamin' 'eck, what are these guys on ?????

My mate owns a MOT testing centre/garage (He honest and consequently not rich).

He tells me that some testers look to how much they can make out of each customer, if nothing is wrong and they can do an extra  bulb replacement this is worth an at least an extra £10 quid.

He also said never pay this fee do it yourself and return under free government retest conditions, because if you repair failed item within the prescribed legal period, they need to only test the failed item, not a full retest (unless there are other advisories, then they need to check these also)  :)

I am also wandering whether to negotiate with him a special MOT price for oof members with honest true MOT results (without any imaginative failures) .

He is seriously interested in this proposition but I need to know how much interest we have.

He is thinking discount to £35 for MOT test with a fair and honest MOT test offered.

Tell me what you think. ( He is thinking about volume of custom) rather rip you off repairs  :y

My garage would have just changed the bulb. When I went to get the meriva MOT'd, they changed a wiper blade and a front sidelight bulb to get it through.

Mine just ask me the REG number and when it has too start..... ;D
i'm not going to rise to it...

Have a couple of stella"s first.... :y
anyone can get dodgy ones - I'm guessing I can get much cheaper than you can - but I'm not that irresponsible...

Tut tut...i meant he knows my cars are always in tiptop (well MOT passable) condition so its pretty much a formality they will pass.

How you possibly think i meant anything dodgy.....me Mr Honest... ;D 8-)

TBH I would rather have an honest fail than a dodgy pass. My family ride in the vehicle and they are worth too much to me !

Well -- better to get an honest pass though  :)

I know a garage that gave a MOT on a unsafe and unroadworthy condition car........that was an 'honest pass'!!

If the car was unsafe how was it an "honest pass" --- 'twas either dodgy or incompetent  :-?

Incompetent!
MOT inspector failed the car......same garage repaired it, MOT inspector obviously didnt bother to check the work and passed it.
As the work affected the tracking, it was in a tyre place just down the road, driven by the owner of the car, an hour later. As the tyre fitter was pointing out to the owner, that the work hadnt been done correctly, the front drivers wheel fell off!!

Depends on the dodgy pass - mine was a little but it wasn't worth the hassle.

Mine was over the bumper protector on the tow bar.

Heard of passes over failure emmisions as well.

Everything else apart they should amend the regs to prohibit repairs being carried out by the testing station ---- cut out the pecuniary interest in fabricating repair jobs !!!!

That does at first glance seem petty, but it does indicate a fault that stops the registration plate being permanently illuminated, and possibly could quickly develop into a full 'no light' situation.  A police patrol will stop a vehicle with no illuminated plate as of course it is an offence under the Road Traffic Act.  The testers could therefore be prosecuted for passing a car with such a fault.  ;)
