Sound card just gone pop

Just sat here on my Lappie, a Toshiba Portege touch screen model and its just made an ear splitting squealing sound and now no sound, so looks like its a trip to the PC doctors,  >:(

Give it a reboot......more than likely sound will return  :y

Sounds like the sound card driver got its knickers in a twist.

Just tried that and no go, tried the settings etc but all to no avail, bugger  :(

my gut feeling from the description is you will never hear a squeak from that machine again.

And if it is hardware, on a laptop, it can't be repaired.

Maybe just time to buy a new lappy, this one still works fine other than the sound.  :-/

Trouble with things like that hanging out all the time is something will soon get broken, but it give OP the option

No worse than a USB memory stick or some of the things that can now be connected through PCMCIA.  Can always remove them if carrying laptop.
Cheaper solution than buying a new laptop ;)
