I should add, I was shocked at how kids today are unaware of road safety - I was on hols with my Bro and his kids, and they (the kids) do just walk out in the road without looking :o - they really have no idea, and these kids are old enough to know better, and academically pretty smart :o :o

They do know how to cross a road, it's just they're now arrogant enough that they step out into the road because they expect the car to stop for them.
The louts near my parent's house now know who won't stop for them!!  ::)  ::)  ::)

meanwhile the do-gooders of this world dont seem to see a problem with the ferral kids that roam our streets, before you know it we`ll have to employ a man with a red flag in front of our cars rather than take a firm hand with these "little darlings" that think they run this country >:( >:(

In the case of the nieces and nephews I mentioned, I'm embarrassed to say its ignorance rather than arrogance.

I agree some are arrogant, MK again, they like to play chickens.  Occasionally they get a shock ;)

The schools in my area you would be lucky to get anywhere near 30mph when kids are being picked up or dropped off,the roads are littered with chelsea tractors which are normally blocking at least half the road,but having said that I dont have a problem with a 20mph outside schools during term time and school hours.These could be notified by signs flashing the limit to let drivers know that school is in operation and therefore the limit applies.
What will almost certainly happen though is that they will stick cameras all over the place and people driving past a school at 25mph in the middle of the summer holidays will get done. >:(
As for reducing the 30 limit to 20 overall,Imo it would be ludicrous,if your not capable of driving safely and stopping quickly or taking avoiding action if necassary at 30mph you shouldnt be driving.
As for motorways and other major roads,I dont think there should be any upper limit on them but I think we should have a seperate driving test that you have to pass after passing the normal test before being allowed to drive on them.This would include driving at high speed and demonstrating the ability to control the vehicle,drive in a safe manner,excercise lane discipline etc.
Then put as much freight as possible back on the railways,and happy days are here again. :) :)

NSL on dual carriageways and motorways.
Armcove barrier. Designed to withstand 70mph impact.
NSL won't go higher, would have to replace all the barriers for a start. Then loads of other probs any way

That piece of dual carriageway, part of the Oxford ring road, where that woman with about 10 kids in the car crashed and killed them all is now an utterly ridiculous 50mph...

It is being widely reported today that the government are soon going to announce a 20 mph speed limit in urban areas and on roads near schools.
Also reductions in speed limits at accident blackspots.
Discuss?! ::)

You may need to pedal a little Ode Lad to help the "Boggar" out  ;D ;D :P
