Questions about 3.0 cams in a 2.5, and chipping
« on: 19 April 2009, 17:45:00 »

Ok, so the Miggy I am taking ownership of is a 2.5 V6.

On the basis I will be changing the cambelt kit anyway, is it worth me popping in some 3.0 cams?

What are the gains - I've heard several say 20bhp - is this really achievable? Can this increase power by this much, from 160 to 180bhp? (Or whatever it pushes out)

Also - are there any decent chips on the market for further gains, and are they worthwhile? :y

Hi James,

if I remember correctly the exact number was 18 bhp..

but if I had your mechanical knowledge and abilities , I would combine that with some head skimming and port polish.. :y

Lol I'm not really that knowledgable, just became familiar with these V6s through trial and error!

Not too sure on head skimming, only reason being the inlet may not sit flat..  :-/

I'm sure you can solve that :y

cambelt tensioners may also need some work though  :-/

Cams are very worth while indeed ;)
Maybe some 2.6 or 3.2 exhaust manifolds to ;)

Funny you should say this, I am seriously considering changing the manifolds, crossed my mind too.

Anyone done this, or able to confirm what sort of increase changing manifolds should see? :y

Yep. You'd have to dump the SAI but that's no problem  :y

I have some 3.0 cams and I will be porting the heads as well.

They are going on my 2.6 and I should be looking at roughly 200bhp afterwards.

If you want to see head porting I'll show you
