....about all the trouble on the forum this week, here it is in all it's glory:

We were having our usual banter and the ladies were ganging up so I told them that they were witches. After a few more posts LJay posted "Cackle, cackle"
In reply I posted "Sounds like your breathers need cleaning"
For some reason, Kris then posted something like "That's not breathers need cleaning, that's a gob wants closing that mate"

LJay quite rightly took offence, and so did Jimbob, and a few others, and it all went downhill from there. That is it in all it's glory.

Whilst I realise that this was the latest in a spate of disagreements lately, it really wasn't that bad. People who weren't privvy to the goings on must be thinking that it was an exceptionally bad episode. It wasn't.

I haven't spoken about it so far, but now everyone knows what started it, I'm sure you'll agree it wasn't a big deal. The overreaction was stunning.

I suggest that if things appear to be going that way again, that WE(incl me) take a few minutes to consider before typing anything.

Thats the trouble with message boards........same as text messages.......the sender knows what they mean, usually they think a witty comment, but the receiver misreads it and takes offence.

Hence why i try to never post anything that might seem offensive to some, and the same with text messages.....unless in the case of texts i know the person really well and i know they will know im joking, tho even then sometimes I had to call them and explain what i meant

I agree totally TD, however thats why there are smiley faces They are emoticons to show how what has been typed is meant Hence me using lots and lots of them, to make sure I'm not misunderstood.

Some peeps tend not to look at the smilies tho or if they do dont understand them......ive read threads where the orig poster has used smilies and to me i know they are taking the pee......but some early replies to the thread are totally serious

There has been, and still is under the surface, a problem with part of the forum, and its a volatile situation.

That may be the case Jaime, I dont know, or want to know. But that particular thread was what kicked it off the other night.

If these 'undercurrents' continue, then perhaps a clear warning, followed by a clear-out may be in order. If people are waiting to go off half cocked because of personal grudges, then I cant see any way of stopping it, other than real-time moderating (out of the question, I know).

If people don't tow the line after a warning then break em off We don't want this Forum being ruined
