Question - Saloon or Estate.
« on: 26 April 2009, 10:07:34 »

Hi.
At the moment I have a 3ltr saloon and the wife has a 2.5ltr estate.
We both think our versions are better than the other for differing reasons. They are both Elite with alot of the extras. Both have no faults except the argument of which model is better.
Does anyone have any good reasons to settle this debate once and for all as there is only 1 parking space available.

Yeah, saloon is a better looking and quieter car, and when put into the twisties, I would say better handling too. :y

So get rid of the estate.

BTW, I'm after a nice diesel estate! ::)

saloons tend to handle better, less weight at the back, i also find they crash and roll less. Even though mother tunnie has a facelift estate elite, i find my facelift cd spec rides better!

Saloon ....  better looking.  Estate ... more practical.

Given that the saloon boot is cavernous and with the hatch open you can still get loads in ---- however, on the handling side, the estate was designed to handle better under load (albeit not so good empty).

So, it boils down to what you cart around all the time -- if both cars travel empty most of their lives, go for the saloon :y

Great summing up HC! :y :y  It does depends on what you really need from a practical point of view! ;) ;)

Thanks for all your advice but the question will go on for now as both cars are too good to get rid of.
Long live Omega Owners Forum. :)

I think the Saloon is the winner on looks, but there are some seriouly nice looking Estates out there.  I think at the end of the day you could stand 2 saloons or estates side by side and then it would become an arguement about colour.

I have a 3.0 Elite and 2,5 GLS Sallons but am seriously tempted to move the GLS in favour of an Elite Estate.

Obviously depends on the use. A saloon with blacked out back windows would be no good as a 'private ambulance'  ::)  :y  :y whereas an estate would be!  ;D

Estate's tend to hold there value better than saloon's
But as we are talking Omega that dont hold true.

My estate takes all my junk and I cant find another car better to replace it with

Sorry guys but I don't like looks of saloon at all. It's not only Omega though - I prefer estate version of preatty much any large car. A matter of taste I guess
