just a quicky before I go to work, you definately need to do as I said before. your mac id must be printed somewhere, motherboard, box, booklet. I will look into it further this evening when I have finished at the workhouse :y

The Physical Address is the MAC address.

The last one looks suspicious and I wouldn't want it on a network.  Do you know where the last two come from? Can you remove/disable the device that owns it/them.

MAC addresses can't just be dreamed-up.  They are supposed to be unique across the known universe so manufacturers get ranges assigned to them and you need to have the right one for the device if indeed you can re-write it.

Having said that, if you are just using the machine on a local network you should get away with it (although your BIOS says otherwise).

HTH

Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_address says MAC addresses are more complicated in this day and age.

That is an invalid MAC address and needs programming correctly.

Remember that you will ahev multiple MAC's on your board as you have multiple physical network adpators.

IT support at Pallicomp have told me where the MAC should be on the motherboard and im fairly sure from memory that it's "001966BA9121"

but as Mark said this is only the MAC for the mb and all the individual adaptors will have their own MAC,

just hope i can restore the main one and the rest sort themselves out??? :-/

sure i've tried that number though :-?

"Tunnel adapter " implies a virtual network interface created by a VPN or other software device to me. In that case it doesn't have a hardware MAC address because no physical hardware interface is associated with it. Perhaps it's not necessarily a problem that the MAC addres is zero.

It looks to me like the problem is that the physical Ethernet interface hasn't been picked up at all. All I can see above is a wireless LAN.

Depending on how the VPN is created, a MAC address will still be required.

As said, all physicla devices will need a MAC address.

Tunnel virtual adapter will have a MAC that is meaningless.

Looks like BIOS is disabling this adapter - have you removed the power from the PC (by pulling the plug for 30s). This is a very, very, very, very common problem on those appalling Nvidia NIC chipsets.
