Omega MV6 smoking?
« on: 06 February 2007, 19:14:59 »

I am looking for an Omega MV6 if i can get one! I am even considering getting an MV6 orElite even if some work needs doing (off on the sick with a bad back ;D)

I am after some tips again guys! One on ebay again i have seen that hasn't done a great deal of miles 80000 i think but says it smoking badly.... :-? Is this a tell tail sign of Head Gasket Failure?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1998-VAUXHALL-OMEGA-MV6-WILL-BREAK-IF-ENOUGH-INTEREST_W0QQitemZ150087330224QQihZ005QQcategoryZ9858QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item150087330224

Now i have asked and been told that oil in your water is the oil cooler, but sorry for sounding thick here but how does the oil get into the water coolant system?  On Mrs' Range Rover the oil coolers are part of the radiator (o/s edge of Rad, Engine Oil cooler, n/s edge of rad, Gearbox oil cooler) so how would the oil get in there? unless a problem with head gasket or perhaps even the radiator..... :-?

Thanks

Has potential.

Been sitting for a few weeks then smoking on start?  Possible valve stem seals.  Smoke should clear once hot and up to temp.

Oil Cooler - this should be really called a heat exchanger.  It sits between the V's of the heads in the engine block.  Oil heats water or water heats oil.  Both keep the other at the right tempt at the right time.

No air powered oil coolers on the V6 !!

So its this Heat Exchanger thing that seems to be the problem then?
I had a look at a 2.5 v6 Omega today but really didn't like the interior colour :P and when you lift the bonnet its like wow!!! they do look more difficult to work on than the old Rangey!!! I think i will be on here screaming HELP!!!!

If like you say about the valve seals leaking which i did think that myself to be fair was the problem that is quite a larger job as i remember, i did my old escort years ago and if i remember right had to take the head off :-?
