3.2 engines?
« on: 03 February 2007, 16:49:00 »

I've been looking at a replacement miggy estate for mine - have spoken to a trader selling a 'Y' reg 3.2 estate, he said the engine isn't a Vauxhall 3.2 but an Isuzu one ... has anyone heard of this? Sounds a bit odd to me, although I know Isuzu made some of the diesel lumps used in other Vx cars ...

GM does use Isuzo engines on some cars, but the Vx V6 (2.5/2.6/3.0/3.2) are all made in Elsmere Port…  ;D

Maybe the 2.2DTI Diesel lump is Isuzu, no idea, if so it would explain the dealer’s confusion.  :o

The dealer (like many, and especially ones in the Northampton area) is a muppet!  ;D

Isuzu are noted for their excellent (as in tough and durable rather than ultra refined) diesels.

All the petrol engines are GM lumps.

thanks for the replies, I thought the lump should be a GM one !!! The truth will be told tomorrow, I have been promised some pictures via email and have specifically asked for ones of the engine.

Dealer is about 200 miles from Northampton though ... but said he was an ex-Vx technician ...  :-?

How difficult is it to source a load bay cover as apparently it's missing on this one ... I seem to remember hearing there are several different types too ... it's a Y-reg (2001 model year) - how much are they normally?

cheers  :y

Isn't the 3.2 also fitted to some Vauxhall Monterays? They're basically badge-engineered isuzu Troopers, so perhaps thats where his confusion comes from.

yes, probably ... but to my knowledge that engine has less power than the Vx 3.2 lump, not sure what other differences there are between them. It may be that he left Vx before the GM 3.2 lump was introduced ...

Just to add more confusion didn't the Rodeo/Vx/Honda thing start with a GM V6 engine and then go to an Isuzu 3.2?

The Isuzu engines were

1.5 and 1.5TD as fitted to Corsa/Nova - Bomb proof and a great nippy little lump (with the Turbo!)
1.7TD as fitted to the Cavalier
1.7 CDTi (latest, not bad, suffers fuel pump failure)
2.8TD fitted to Frontera and Trooper
3.0V6 CDTi as fitted to Vectra and Signum....very good adn highly tuneable lump...

No Isuzu power plants were ever fitted to the Omega....

thanks folks, having looked at the pic of the engine that the dealer sent it's definitely the GM lump (as expected).

I think as spike suggested, the dealer is probably thinking of the 3.2V6 fitted in the Frontera - after a bit of searching, that comes out as an Isuzu 6VD1 - 202BHP, 3165cc - as opposed to 213BHP / 3175cc on the GM Y32SE ... not bad getting an extra 11BHP from 10cc  ;)  ;D
