Buggies for the troops...

Really.

This is what the MoD has ordered for our brave troops in Afghanistan (at a cost of £7m).

Should I laugh or cry?  :-/ :'(

I know, but apart from looking a bit silly, it appears far too open to afford any protection.

Snipers would have a clear view of the occupants' bodies.

I would not want to be in one rolling over with a tonne of supplies in the back.

It may look "fun", but in theatre operations I would expect something a bit more secure...

Its a little more enclosed in military spec!

Although it still looks a little Meccano esq

At least it does not ahve some stinky old Land Rover engine in it...although a 1.0 power plant unit with a ton on the back is going to be pretty dog slow!

Are they issued with parachutes in case you come across a land mine?

They don't look much more substantial than the Gators that we use to tow recently-landed gliders off the airfield. Wouldn't fancy driving one in a war zone. :o
