Living with my facelift
« on: 04 May 2009, 00:24:09 »

Well where do i start, as most of you now know, James is now the lucky owner of my mini facelift elite as i have traded down up to a facelift, a 2.2 DTI cdx saloon. ........so the pro's and con's
Pro's
1, better handling
2, Being a diesel, better mpg
3, Slightly more modern lines
4, ???????????????????????  :-/

Con's
1, Build quality far worse on the facelift, too much plastic
2, Ride quality is not a patch on my old mini facelift
3, Facelift being a CDX, i miss the toy's of the elite
4, More road noise from the facelift
5, i could go on but i won't, .............

Had i not have been doing the extra miles that i now have to do i would have my old mini facelift back in a flash, as nice as the extra MPG is in the facelift it does not make up for the comfort and better build of the mini facelift.

Very  :-/

I agree totally, I have my pre facelift Elite and the facelift 2.2. Now taking out the complete lack of power of the 4 pot I'd rather have the pre facelift anyday! Toys or not it was just better built!

i would agree with quite a few things there, apart from the ride. I find my facelift rides better than any pre-facelift i have been in!

Maybe thats linked to road noise? York was the first time in a while i had done a long blast in my 2.2 and on the M1 i had hardly any road noise, it has less than mother tunnie's facelift elite estate.

I think the road noise is purely down to the tyres that are fitted.

My current Elite has just had brand new rear GM shocks and GM springs and front GM struts and KYB springs and handles 100% better than before. The rear had to be done due to a cracked spring and leaking shock and I decided to get the front done so it matched (0K rear and 65K front is an odd combination as the front is then far too soft).

The interior trim quality is an issue seems to be worse where fingernails (especially if it's had a female driver  ::)) can catch it - door pockets, gear surround near handbrake etc etc.

I do think the styling was a step forward, it keeps the car looking fresh.

You should try the ride quality now, with new balanced tyres and new wishbones - the handling has also improved tenfold... :y

I personally prefer the Mini Facelift to the facelift both internally and externally

I have to admit, there is a place in my heart for the 2.0 select i used to have, that was my first Omega in 1995, she was only 3 month old when i purchsaed her, i would say my facelift 2.2 is better in many ways.
