Ohh the 4pot diesel! Brilliant engine but very slow!!!
Next door has a W124 6 pot diesel its on 250k still going strong Newer mercs are rubbish the CDi engines are brilliant though
Rust is a problem on mercs too!
Hee-Hee. Try a 0-60 time of circa 20 seconds.

It has been known to overtake the odd milk float and ice-cream van
though!

(bet that's really put the V6 owners on here in a swoon, now)

.
You're right, they really are brilliant reliable engines. Still doesn't use
oil or water between services at 150,000 miles.
Rust does affect the newer Mercs, really badly on some of them. Most
folk I know who traded up their 190's and 200's to later models are
really disappointed in this respect. Mine's been garaged and cosseted
since 2 years old, so is in good nick. Just starting to get the odd bubble
on the front wheel arches. Must sort that out this summer. Mrs Grumpy
keeps getting offers to buy it at where she works. She just tells them
it's not for sale and they ask her to give them first refusal if we ever
decide to sell. No chance, it would feel like selling a rug rat.

Funny how we get attached to cars, isn't it? They are really just
tin boxes on wheels that get us from A to B, but they seem to take on
a sentient personality. Gawd knows what Freud would make of it.
